Breaking Bad Nominated for 16 Emmy Awards

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced its nominees for the 66th Annual Emmy Awards, and Breaking Bad garnered the most Outstanding Drama Series nominations for Basic Cable and the most nominations in the series’ history with 16, including three-time Emmy winner Bryan Cranston for Lead Actor, two-time Emmy winner Aaron Paul for Outstanding Supporting Actor and a second consecutive nomination for Emmy Award winner Anna Gunn for Outstanding Supporting Actress. Vince Gilligan was nominated for Outstanding Directing and Writing for the Season 5, Episode 16, “Felina” and Moira Walley-Beckett was nominated for Outstanding Writing for the Season 5, Episode 14, “Ozymandias.” The series also garnered nominations for Michael Slovis for Outstanding Cinematography as well as nominations for Casting, Single Camera Picture Editing, Sound Editing, Sound mixing, Makeup and Prosthetic Makeup.
Breaking Bad‘s challengers in the category for Outstanding Drama Series include HBO’s Game of Thrones, Netflix’s House of Cards, PBS’s Downton Abbey, HBO’s True Detective, and AMC’s very own Mad Men.

Bryan Cranston was recognized in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series category. His competition includes Kevin Spacey (Netflix’s House of Cards), Jeff Daniels (HBO’s The Newsroom), Woody Harrelson (HBO’s True Detective), Matthew McConaughey (HBO’s True Detective) and Jon Hamm (AMC’s Mad Men).

Aaron Paul and Anna Gunn are also nominated for Outstanding Actor and Actress in a Drama Series, respectively. Aaron Paul is up against Jim Carter (PBS’s Downton Abbey), Peter Dinklage (HBO’s Game of Thrones), Josh Charles (CBS’s The Good Wife), Mandy Patinkin (Showtime’s Homeland) and Jon Voight (Showtime’s Ray Donovan) for the award.

Anna Gunn will contend against Maggie Smith (PBS’s Downton Abbey), Joanne Froggatt (PBS’s Downton Abbey), Lena Headey (HBO’s Game of Thrones), Christine Baranski (CBS’s The Good Wife) and Christina Hendricks (AMC’s Mad Men).
