Drive by post (icon space is better than life)

(+) So I totally caved and bought another 70 userpic slots. Big icon space is the BEST THING EVER. I love it and my icon collection. I'm still probably gonna switch things up a lot because I always find new icons that I wanna use but yay! 105 is awesome. It's like crack; soon I'm gonna want the 200 package (but I swear I won't get it). Am I right ( Read more... )

oh and i was soooo excited when i found that edward scissorhands icon cause i used to watch that movie ALL THE TIME when i was young and it makes super nostalgic for the 90s (haha, back when winona ryder was the it girl).

OMG BEFORE SUNSET ICON.

I ALSO SEE YOU HAVE AN AGE OF INNOCENCE ICON. I loved that movie sfm. I remember reading the book and having no idea that a film had been made. I pictured Christian Bale as Newland the whole time and imagine me being so pleasantly surprised when DDL turned out to be Newland.

DUDE IT TOOK ME FOREVER TO DIG UP ICONS FOR OLDER/LESS POPULAR MOVIES. The before sunset icon I got from one of those icon challenges and I posted that picture for someone to make.

Haha, I was kind of surprised about DDL in that role too cause it's a little too conventional for him but then again, I watched The Unbearable Lightness of Being before that so I could see him in that kind of role. I was kind of surprised that only Winona Ryder got nominated for that movie though-- I didn't think it was one of her best performances at all.

CHRISTIAN WOULD BE AMAZING AS NEWLAND. But it seems like he doesn't do these kinds of movies anymore... lol

i really liked DDL as Newland but Michelle Pfeiffer was my favorite thing about it--- i didn't see her as Ellen at all, I saw Cate Blanchett!

yeah me neither, I actually felt she was the weakest out of the main 3.

bahhhhh he should. but Hollywood seems to not care for big romantic dramas anymore. they like war and grit. my literature teacher and i were just discussing about how Bright Star was completely ignored this year while I was working on my paper about the poem.

Same, Michelle was awesome; I guess since the film's from 1993, we tend to see people that are currently visible right now in these roles. Cate is in a lot of period dramas while Michelle Pfieffer rarely does movies at all anymore.

Seriously, I just thought the character wasn't that special and it wasn't enough of a part to garner an Oscar nod. Although from I hear about that time, people thought she was 'overdue' for a nomination (even though she was only like 23) since she had already done loads of good movies and hadn't been nominated yet.

yeah, i think they don't like pure romance anymore. if it's a romance, it has to involve war/action to get any attention. i mean, i didn't really think bright star would be nominated for a lot but it deserved more than just one costume design nod.

i miss Michelle! Cheri was so good and i adored Rupert Friend. the costumes were so gorgeous and i liked Kathy Bates in the supporting role.

LMAO!

exactly! i was hoping it might squeak by for more tech awards if the major nods were totally out of the question

I wanted her to get some awards attention for Cheri! And Rupert Friend needs to be in more movies cause he's actually a pretty good actor (then maybe he and Keira can be in another movie together where he doesn't play Wickham).

i think the studio was just too cheap/broke to campaign. last year definitely felt like the bad economy was affecting things. i know that miramax (inglourious basterds) and paramount (up in the air) both suffered a lot so their movies probably suffered too.

he is--- i've heard a little bit about the new film he's doing with Ioan Gruffad, The Kid, where his role is pretty intense, and i think he's good in it. and i liked him so much as Albert in The Young Victoria.

lol on the other had, Summit was rolling in cash because of Twilight.

TIFF right now, I'm so excited for all the starting of the Oscar buzz--- did you hear that people are betting on Anne Hathaway for that lame looking rom-com she's doing with Jake? I've never liked Anne Hathaway. Overrated.

yeah, i looked at his upcoming films and i want more big roles for him!

haha, that's the only reason why i tolerate twilight. even though the movies suck, it's pretty remarkable for those movies to cost like $50 million to make $300 million domestic alone. that's a lot of profit rolling in.

and obviously fox had plenty of dough to spend, haha. and it still didn't work!

yeah, people are raving THE SHIT out of anne hathaway's performance for some reason. i mean, i read the script (which i liked enough) and honestly the trailer/clips i've seen looked a lot lighter/comedic than i was expecting. i'm still rooting for annette bening right now though. i'm kind of indifferent to anne hathaway. i thought she was good in rachel getting married, but she's not an actress who shines in many roles. i feel like in a lot of her other movies, she's so average.

Annette Benning for The Kids are Alright? I heard the film was really great, for all the actors esp, which is why i'm eager to watch it for my girl Mia.

exactly. so the script is good? that's nice i guess but i have never really found her to be particularly impressive either.

i'm still waiting for people like Rachel McAdams to land a seriously good role because i know she has the potential, she's just been stuck doing rom-coms and sappy love stories.

yeah! mia was really great in it and i loved her character-- her american accent is perfect too.

i mean, it's a pretty good script but it's not like the most riveting thing ever. honestly, it was hard for me to picture jake and anne in those roles too. but there is A LOT of sex and nudity so maybe that's part of why she's getting so much love (haha it's true, best actress oscar LOVES nudity).

i think rachel looks pretty good in morning glory-- not that it'll be an oscar nomination but if it's well-received, i think a golden globe nod is possible. she also has that woody allen movie, midnight in paris next year (marion cotillard is in it too!), although woody allen is so hit/miss these days.

she is definitely one of the best actresses out there who has never received a major nomination.

oh god, her accent has always been flawless---- i fell completely in love with her after i found her episodes of In Treatment--- she's AMAZING in there. her character was a pretty tough role (sexually abused, messed up, suicidal aspiring olympic gymnast) and she handled it so well. Gabriel Byrne's main character had 5 patients i think, and she was far by the most interesting.

woody is really very hit and miss although i did enjoy Whatever Works. I don't even know why. i think it was because of Evan Rachel Wood.
