SECOND VIEWING-- DEFINITELY SAW MORE WOBBLING THAN THE FIRST TIME.

And this time, I looked really really closely every time they spun the totem in the movie and tried to see which one the final spin resembled more. I think the 'dream' spinning is just so uniform and continuous that the final scene is just a little more wobbly than that. But then those stupid kids look the same. DAMN YOU NOLAN.

i'm just going to let it be and stop thinking about it. makes it more fun. i remember the first time i watched Memento my instincts went to OH YAY HE KILLED THE GUY and then the second time around i realized OMG WHAT IF HE'S BEEN KILLING ALL THESE GUYS THINKING THEY'RE THE KILLER.

it definitely seemed so real though right? what with Michael Caine and then his kids turning around. but then they wear the same clothes and i definitely feel like he's been on the run for a bunch of years etc. ughh

Smart man. He'll have people talking about this movie until the end of time.

This better get lots of Oscar nominations or else.

:)

Best editing, cinematography, visual effects, sound editing, sound mixing should be a lock for the techs, the slightly riskier categories would be Best original screenplay and picture i'll crose my fingers for because the academy sucks and likes to mess with us and i want to be prepared for disappointment.

The techs are in for sure. I think with 10 slots, Best Picture should be fine as well especially considering last year, they nominated BOTH Avatar and District 9 (neither of which have the kind of pedigree that this movie has-- I mean, how many Oscar nominees does Inception have in its cast?). Also, a lot of people think Summer 2010 has pretty much sucked balls so far, so if Inception can keep that 'summer savior' momentum going, I think it should do quite well. Also, looking at the reviews, there are A LOT of perfect scores for it but also quite a few really negative scores. That bodes well for nominations cause you just need a certain group to love it to get nominated.

Screenplay is in, I think. There are very few original screenplays that become Oscar contenders (and TS3 is considered Adapted). Director is one that could either be a shoe-in or a very close call, depending on how well this movie holds up into the fall and how strong the competition is.

omg i love how everyone is going crazy and theorizing over the end and the whole film etc. etc. it's so fun that way.

this one theory i heard was that Christopher Nolan basically performed Inception on us by giving us the whole idea that it was a dream so maybe it was really reality but then so many of us would end up thinking it was a dream. lol!

talk of sequels now. boo.
Summer 2010 HAS sucked balls. I remember watching so many films around this time--- Star Trek, The Hangover, 500 DoS, Harry Potter, X-Men Origins etc. The only films i was interested in this summer was basically Inception. Earlier I did watch Iron Man 2. Also Toy Story 3 i really wanted to watch but I haven't found the time to watch it and I think I missed the boat.

I can't wait for Oscar buzz to start building-- not just for this film but for anything.

Haha, I mentioned in the review that hopefully there aren't any Inception-related suicides to come out of this (there are idiots out there). And the way they showed Cobb planting inception on Mal was him spinning the top in her safe (to show that it would never topple).. and that's what the movie did in the end.

I don't really want a sequel to this. This is so much more like Memento than like TDK or BB. I feel like this was written to be one movie and that continuing wouldn't feel right.

The blockbusters this year haven't been good-- Iron Man 2 was fun but nowhere near the first, Toy Story 3 is the Pixar movie of the year, everything else has kind of sucked. Last summer had Up, Star Trek, District 9, The Hurt Locker, and Inglourious Basterds, all great movies. So far, this summer has only produced TS3 and Inception that are above mediocre.

haha! I always forget about that detail about Mal and the safe! There was someone asking about how come she didn't want to come out of the dream and Dom did and he had to plant the idea etc.

of course! it would defeat the whole purpose of the film!

I agree. I can't believe this year's films have been shaping up to be worse than last year's. Maybe there will be better fall films.

Yeah, that wasn't quite clear why Dom knew it was fake but Mal didn't. Maybe he had more experience with these dream escapades. But still, they were already there for ~50 years so it didn't exactly catch up to him quickly either.

At least there were some pretty good movies early this year like Shutter Island, How to Train Your Dragon and The Ghost Writer. But we have movies coming up from the Coens, Fincher, Malick, Schnabel, etc. so there's still hope this won't turn into a crappy year.

i think the safe was all about her locking away the idea that she wasn't in a dream world... or at least that's my theory.

yep. I really liked Shutter Island and the cinematography and acting was stellar but i still can't figure out what was a bit off with the film. What are the Coens doing?

I think Shutter Island is really entertaining but it just feels not as "serious" cause Scorcese did it more as an experimental homage with kind of pulpy special effects and music. That's why I thought it was probably good that they pushed it to February.

The Coens have their True Grit remake this December with Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin (plus some newcomer girl).
