[It's slightly disconcerting for there not to be a message on his voicemail, so Verity hesitates for a moment before speaking. Though when she thinks about it, it may line up with the whimsically poorly made flier she found. She had wondered if that was real, too.]

Hullo, my name is Verity Kindle. I happened upon an older flier on the bulletin board the other day, advertising a detective agency. Have I contacted the right person?

[The illusion of the imaginary detective agency is perpetuated for about a day or so. That's how long it takes Break to notice and retrieve the voice mail. Whoops.]

Why yes you have~! I am actually quite impressed that flyer is still up. Buuuut that's just serendipitous for us, isn't it, Kindle-san?

So! You're interested in a job, I assume?

[Well, so it turns out the number is real at least. She's still not so sure about the agency itself.]

It is, sir. The paper does seem a bit worse for wear, but still readable.

[... such as it is.]

You are Mr Xerxes Break, I presume? I am indeed looking to inquire about a position. Perhaps you could tell me a bit more about your organization?

Excellent, excellent! Glaaaad to hear it! And glad to hear from you~. Xerxes Break is me, indeed!

[Which likely means she missed the appearance of Kevin, which is fine by him. Right now, he is the epitome of cheer and excitement. Although... huh. That might be the most serious question he's gotten about the agency. How to respond.]

Weeeeell. We're a touch on the small side, I admit. I have been hoping to expand, but in recent times our work has been... modest, at best. A few stakeouts, a few unfaithful spouses, nothing terribly exciting. But that means we're rather flexible in terms of positions! What exactly is your interest in the field, Kindle-san?

Everyone must start somewhere. You can hardly be faulted for having to work your way up from smaller cases.

My interest in the field is largely just that, interest. I have no aspirations to become a professional detective or a private investigator full time. But I enjoy a good puzzle and I do have a small amount of experience with field work. At least that's what I suppose you would call it. I enjoy a good mystery, Mr Break. I thought it might be good mental exercise to have information to gather and things to solve.

[She could almost laugh at herself for that description. She's practically calling herself a bonvivant detective, just like Lord Peter.]

[Oh, whew. He likes her already. She's stroking his ego and she doesn't sound incompetent.]

Excellent, excellent, that's perfect. You sound like you'll fit in nicely! When can you come in? To... see the facilities, and meet your possible co-workers, of course. Heehee.

Whatever time is most convenient for you will be acceptable, Mr Break. I rather make my own hours, you see.

[By which she means she's her own boss now at her regular job. Not that she sounds cocky about it, just confident.]

So do I, for the most part! Hmm, hmmmmm. Perhaps early next week? I can give you directions, of course.

Yes, directions would be helpful. And early next week would be just fine. I look forward to it.

Hmm, what's the nearest public landmark to you? Or perhaps if I said, "start at the marketplace," you would be able to go from there?

Well, I live in a house in lower class residential district one, but starting from the marketplace is fine!

Aha! I don't think you're too far away, actually.

[Although, given his inability to read street signs, he opts to start with the marketplace. The description is a bit odd, only lefts and rights and counting blocks and streets crossed, until finally his apartment, which he does give a street and a number for.]

We're on the second floor, so please ring the call box at the front door and I'll let you right up!

[She starts writing things down, all the lefts and rights, but it quickly becomes nonsense to her. Too many directions with no street names to check herself against. She resolves to just look up the address he gives on the map and find him that way.]

All right, I'll remember that. Thank you, Mr Break. I look forward to meeting in person.

[Probably for the best. But Break thinks he gives excellent directions because everyone always finds him!]

Likewise, Kindle-san! I shall await with bated breath! Heehee.
