World sundered apart.

"Come on Eevee. We'll be late!" The redhead boy laughed as the Eevee mewled, struggling to keep up with her master. Silver paused, glanced at it from under his wild hair that needed a hair cut - It was starting to to get long and shaggy and in his eyes - then picked her up a little roughly and darted off down the hall, skidding to a hault when he saw the two guards. Awwwww. He was late.

"Am I late?"

"Yea. Sorry squirt."

"Awww. Can't I go in though?" He pouted.

The two grunts shifted, then cracked the door open, allowing the Rocket Heir to slip in. Inside there was a sizeable crowd of people in the stands, most of them Silver knew were onlookers, but he also saw some of his dad's higher ups. Grinning, he slipped up the steps to join them wordlessly. The match was passed the halfway point, but a look at the scoreboard had him stunned. Two of his dad's Pokemon were down while this kid only had one done? W-what was going on?

Why wasn't his dad winning? The man was the best and the strongest ever! He knew that some trainers had gotten badges, but they'd won them fair and square. Maybe this was one of the rare times, but... He wasn't sure. He knew the past year'd been hard on his dad - with a few of the operations falling through due to meddling and there was that loss of Cinnabar Island labs the year before... but...

Nah. His dad wasn't in the best shape, that's all it was.

"Dad'll win."

"Yea. Of course."

He grinned and buried his nose against his Pokemon's fur, the Eevee squirming a bit. Silver didn't notice or care.

"You're good for a kid. But still no match for me! Double kick."

"Iron tail!"

Silver winced as the attack hit, not feeling sorry for the Pokemon, but for his father. Around him, he could See and hear the cheers - and the boo's. He scowled darkly. Why would any one cheer for - Red was the name on the score board - this trainer? His dad was gonna win!

He saw his dad's look of anger as he recalled the Nidoqueen and then out came the Nidoking, Giovanni wasting no time now. "Poision sting!"

"PIKACHU!"

Silver scowled. Why did the kid still have a Pikachu? Everyone knew that a Raichu was stronger and faster and better suited to battling, Pikachu were mostly useless things - and the corner for a Pokemon... who was this kid trying to fool? It was weakm, unworthy of compassion or concern. But he did grin when the trainer recalled it, sending out an Espeon. Silver's eyes boggled! That was one of the rarer evolutions of Eevee.

"Psychic."

Silver watched on in horror as the Espeon's eyes glowed and the Nidoking was hurled up against the roof, then dropped with a ground shaking thud. His father only growled and recalled the unconscious Pokemon, and Silver knew that it'd bee put into 'training' again. Oh well. It was the thing's own fault - It'd failed.

"Earthquake!" Silver jumped ten feet in the air when the Rhyhorn appeared and started to use the move, the whole battle arena rumbling with the powerful shockwaves. He grinned as the Espeon took damage, cheering his dad on silently with a small wave. Not that he was acknowledged though - not in the middle of a battle of a badge.

But the Espoen was soon back on it's feet.

"Reflect!"
"TAKEDOWN!"
"Swift!"
"Rockblast!"
"Phych-- ESPEON!"

Silver sniggered into his Pokemon's fur as the trainer recalled the badly injured animal. But really, what did he expect the rocks to do? Silver watched him fumble for a pokeball before sending out what looked like his second to last Pokemon --

"Blastoise! BLIZZARD!"

-- And watched as the Rhyhorn was taken down by the attack. His father didn't seem that angry from what Silver could see, though the boy missed the clenched teeth and fists, and the fury in his eyes.

"Ha! That was a truly intense fight. You have won! As proof, here is the Earth Badge!" Giovanni held the badge out to Red, having recalled his fainted Pokemon. The child approached silently, Blastoise by his side.

"Having lost in this fashion, I can't face my followers. I have betrayed their trust and failed them once too many times for my liking. As of today, Team Rocket is finished forever! As for myself, I shall dedicate my life to training again. Let us meet again someday! Farewell!"

Silver stood stock still on the stands, watching his father leave, confusion whirling his head. What had just happened. He was about to go after the man when a hand fell on his shoulder. Looking up, he saw that it was Gidon. The man just shock his head. Silver broke free and bolted after his father.

He needed to find out what was going one.

It was just a ruse... right?
