White Day, again. When I was a kid, I used to love it. It seemed like everyone was celebrating my birthday.
It's strange to think I'm growing another year older here. This isn't how I thought my next birthday would be. But -- There are wonderful people in the city, and I'm glad to have met you all. I'm very thankful. So... anyone who wants to, please join us on the beach this evening. We'll be having a party, although it's really not a big deal. There's a lot of food, at least. And it's very nice. So if you'd like to, come by.
Although it was his birthday, the birthday boy didn't seem too excited about a party in his honor. He was putting on a good show, for sure, smiling and greeting everyone, playing in the water, serving endless treats they'd made. But by late afternoon he'd made his way down the beach, a little further from the frivolity, and he was sitting with his feet in the water, his arms wrapped around his knees.
He was grateful to Umi for the party, and grateful to everyone who'd come, but he couldn't shake the melancholy that was hanging over him. He hated it. He hadn't felt so angsty since before Africa, before Mukara. He thought he'd put these feelings behind him, but ever since Kate had found him on the beach, he'd just felt empty and numb. It was hard to get excited about anything, even his birthday, when there were constant twinges from his ribs, reminding him of the tooth-marks the doctors had found there. His legs and arms were going numb at odd times, and he'd almost collapsed in the kitchen earlier, unable to support his own weight. And, worst of all, the guys weren't here. He missed them so much, especially Shuu. His friends in the City were great, but they weren't the other 4/5 of his soul.
So he sneaked away from the party and let himself settle into an almost meditative state as the water lapped at his feet.
