We got our first good news about an hour ago.

The doctor thought that the valves of her heart were infected, and that the bacteria traveled from there in blood clots to her brain.

They performed a transesophageal echocardiogram this morning (they put a probe down her esophagus and use ultrasound to get a clearer picture of her heart) and it came out clear. This has really given us hope that she'll come through this okay.

The bacterial meningitis is still an issue, and is very serious. She did open up her eyes a bit a few minutes ago, which is uplifting. She's on a sedative to keep her from chewing her tubes, which is probably what is keeping her from responding much to us. Most of what we've seen the past day or so is a few eyebrow raises.

My uncle and aunt (her sister) who are marrying off their son next weekend are on their way up here from Houston.
