Today I went to the John Kerry rally at UM. He didn't say anything I didn't expect him to say, so I will share with you all the non-Kerry highlights.
~Prior to the start of the rally, there was some music playing (reeeeeeally old/bad music). Anyway, this one song came on and this old man off to the side of crowd starts dancing. Of course, a dancing old man attracted everyone's attentiion. Encouraged by the cheers of the crowd, he danced more. You know what he did? He did pelvic thrusts. Not only that, but he stuck his tongue while he thrusted. It was the most amusing, spontaneous behavior I've witnessed in awhile. You just had to be there.
~Some of the music played: Chumbawumba, Will Smith (Gettin Jiggy with It), Salt 'n Peppa's Push It, Backstreet Boys, Pump Up the Jam, Hey Ya, and more.
~My two favorite signs in the crowd: "Dick + Bush = Screwed" and "Stop Mad Cowboy Disease."
~State senators in attendance were Kendrick Meeks and Bill Nelson (with their wives by their sides, of course). When they first come on stage, they're clapping along to the music. For those of you who don't know, Meeks is black. This is important because everyone is clapping in tune with the music - except Nelson. And Meeks' wife is getting her groove on. White people ain't got shit on the black groove thing. Meeks' wife seemed cool. I'd vote for him just because of her.
~Shalalalalala of course, introduced Misseur Kerry. In her spiel, she mentioned how UM has the brightest students, blah blah blah. What struck me was her last reference - "the best looking students." I thought UM was trying to rid its image of Suntan U. Now, I know that people can be intelligent and attractive, and its not a bad thing to have an attractive student body, but is that really what you want to emphasize to a presidential candidate? And of course, that's the one thing Kerry took from her speech - "yes, you are the best looking people I've ever seen..." So much for intelligence.
~A woman a couple rows in front of me fainted. They had medics on site and she recovered before they even got to her. But they took her away anyway.
Well those are the highlights.
