Hey, it's not brittle!

Along with my main project, kind of wanted to dabble more in silicone as well. Eventually I'm hoping to take Tim Gore's class on painting silicone on one of the times I'm down in LA. But for now, I'll be learning from the interwebs and poking some friends on tips.

While some techniques are same compared to working with resin pieces, a lot is different too. The closest experience I can compare it to is when I moved from metal miniatures to larger resin kits. Had to relearn and adapt a lot of the painting skills I was familiar with when I moved from smaller scale to larger scale. Heck, I'm still learning. Never ending process I guess.

Kind of my first time working with a translucent material. The controllable translucency of silicone is one of the reasons that makes silicone a popular medium to work with. That is also one of the ongoing challenges too; achieving the perfect level of translucency along with the right painting technique. At one extreme you may end up with something looking too plasticy. On the other end, you'll end up with a piece that may look flat with no depth.

Will be showing this piece over the weekend at Fanime at the San Jose Convention Center.

On another note... My goodness is silicone HEAVY!
