Disclaimer: I just realised that I don't have Keito's poster on my wall. T_T
Summary: Keito never knew that he would actually able to see Hikaru from such close distance, let alone imagine working with the older boy. But when he thought he was a step closer to him, he could feel himself staring at Hikaru from far again, just like he used to. And sometimes, a little match making is needed to add the spark.
A.N.: It's unbeta'ed.

----------------

Keito knew that it would eventually come to this. That one fine day, he would stare at the TV screen, watching Hikaru, and feel that the older boy would be too high to reach. He had been in this kind of situation before. When he was on his junior days, which wasn’t that long anyway, he could only see at Hikaru’s back, staring at him from far.

Hikaru was funny, he thought. He had always been funny. Keito had to admit that he admired him since the day he knew Hikaru existed. How could someone act so natural in front of the camera? And how could someone be hilariously goofy and yet adorable in the same time? He never got the answers. Maybe just not yet.

When he debuted, Keito thought it was a dream. And it did feel like a dream to see Hikaru among those who were debuted with him. He thought God was playing trick on him. He thought he might be suffering from delusional problem. He thought he had to see a psychiatrist.

It came naturally to him that it was in fact reality. Keito didn’t feel awkward anymore around those dazzling and charming bandmates of his. He even actually got to talk to Hikaru a lot. As the matter of fact, it was really amusing how Hikaru always tried to say something in English to Keito and ended up failing miserably. For a moment there, he thought he could reach Hikaru at last. It never occurred to him that there would be time where he wouldn’t even have any activity at all with Hikaru. That it would be time where he would come back to those day where he could only look at the older guy from far again.

“Yo~.. What are you watching?” Shoon greeted him as he sat right beside Keito.

Keito looked up. A smile grew on his face at the appearance of the older man. He liked Shoon a lot. He was like a brother to him. Maybe not as funny as Hikaru, but Shoon had always been able to make him laugh with his weird sense of humour. For him the law student was definitely fun and he could totally understand why variety show suited the older guy a lot.

“Orthros no Inu, last episode,” Keito replied.

“Ah! I haven’t watched the last episode! Hikaru is so going to kill me if he finds out,” Shoon quickly set his eyes on the screen upon realisation. Keito just smiled. He hadn’t watched it himself. He had been busy with school, and the first thing he did was buying the DVD once it was out.

“You watched this every week?”

“I have to,” he replied simply.

“Why?” Keito asked, not really sure that he got what Shoon meant.

“It’s Hikaru. I literally babysat him his whole junior years. I’m bound to watch,” he grinned. “Oh well, other than the fact that he kept on messaging me every week just to make sure that I watched it,” he added.

“Maybe Yaotome-kun thinks that it’s really important that you watch it.”

“How so?”

“I don’t know. Maybe to show you that he can survive without you now and that you should be proud of him.”

Shoon turned his head to Keito. There was this unreadable expression on his face. It was pretty much hard for Keito to know whether Shoon was dumbfounded or he was mad. Maybe he crossed over the line, he thought. Maybe he shouldn’t have said what he said. Sometimes it was hard to remember that Shoon hasn’t debuted yet. Although he seemed like he wasn’t really interested in doing so, Keito knew that any individual would feel hurt at some point if their bandmates debuted but not them.

Surprisingly, Shoon smiled. The smile wasn’t awkward or fake at all. It was a sincere smile. The usual smile that Shoon would always give him. The smile that showed how mature the other guy was. Something that Keito knew he would never become.

“You’re right. He’s a big guy. He doesn’t need me to babysit him on his every move any more. And I’m proud of him,” he said at the end.

Standing up Shoon patted Keito’s shoulder lightly. So light but yet full of care. “Let’s go. We have Hyakushiki filming to do. I can hear Taipi shouting our names out already,” he grinned.

Keito nodded as he turned off the TV and joined Shoon to walk to the studio. Maybe he just had a really different path from Hikaru. If Shoon could accept that reality, he really had to so the same thing too. If someone that was really close to Hikaru, that spent his time around Hikaru when he was still taller than him, someone that had gone through so much with Hikaru, and if that someone, namely Shoon, could move on; Keito felt that he had no right to feel frustrated.

------

Keito couldn’t remember when exactly his admiration towards Hikaru turned into a crush. He didn’t want to say that it was love because he believed that it was too early to conclude so. They didn’t even interact that much anymore lately. No, he wasn’t the type that would fluster around Hikaru, or would become nervous around the older boy. He was more of the type that observed from far and gave a smile when their eyes met.

That day, he just happened to be free after class. He just randomly decided that he might just check on his favourite band’s new album on the nearest CD store without knowing that it just happened to be the day that Hikaru decided to grab some CD on the same exact store.

They were staring at the same CD, and their hands were reaching out for the same exact piece of compact disk. A coincidence?! Keito would like to think about it that way. Slowly that familiar hand made him turned his head to his side, pretty much finding the most memorable face in his life just a step away from him.

“My English boy!” Hikaru exclaimed with a huge grin on his face.

“Yaotome-kun,” Keito gave a small bow with his head.

“Wow, such a coincidence! Do you often come here?” he asked.

“Sometimes.”

“Are you kidding me?! I always come here to buy CDs, I wonder why I never met you!” he replied back.

Keito just smiled, wasn’t really sure what to say.

“Oh, are you free? I was thinking of hitting the café for a while. Maybe you could join me,” offered Hikaru to him.

Keito wasn’t sure whether he should say yes or not, but somehow, he just ended up walking beside Hikaru, pretty much leaving the store behind and forgetting his main purpose in coming to the store. He wanted to say no at the end when he realised that they didn’t even make any conversation on their way there. And that pretty much freaked him out. What if they remained in silence at the café?!

Apparently he was right. Other than some simple conversation on what Keito wanted to order, they didn’t really say anything else. He wasn’t sure whether it was just him being quiet like he always did, or Hikaru being weird and had less inspiration than he usually did to start a conversation.

“So how are you?” Hikaru asked at the end, much to Keito’s relief.

“I’m fine. School is just like usual, and Hyakushiki is getting really interesting,” Keito answered honestly.

“I see.”

“What about you?”

“Me? A little bit free since the drama has ended. But things are good. I have more time for myself,” Hikaru smiled as he sipped into his latte ice blended.

Without any other member around, Hikaru somehow looked more serious and mature than he usually was. There was no Inoo, his partner in crime that would company him doing some mischievous stuff to Daiki, his number one bullying target. Or there’s no Yabu that would exchange some weird jokes with him. And yeah, there was no Takaki to add some flavour on all those goofy behaviour that Hikaru had.

“I gotta go,” Keito stood up as he grabbed his bag.

His action surprised Hikaru of course. They hadn’t talked about anything much just yet, and suddenly the younger guy said he had to go. Keito knew with one look that Hikaru wanted to ask why he was leaving, and with that one look alone Keito knew that Hikaru decided that maybe he shouldn’t ask.

“Oh.. see you later than,” Hikaru smiled. “Don’t forget your coffee.”

His lips curved upwards and a glimpse of relief could be seen on his eyes. Keito bowed. “I’ll text you when I reach home then,” he told Hikaru, just to be polite.

Hikaru just smiled, giving him a goodbye wave.

------

“Yo~!” Shoon curled his arm around Keito’s shocked neck.

“Can’t you just greet him normally, Shoon?” Fujigaya came not long after and gave Shoon’s head a nice little whack.

Shoon just grinned and hoped to the empty space beside Keito on the couch. Fujigaya himself took the seat opposite Keito as he grabbed a magazine from the coffee table. Just like always, those three were the first ones to come.

“You know, Hikaru said something weird yesterday,” Shoon spoke up.

“About what?” Fujigaya asked without looking up from his magazine.

“He was asking me how would I feel when someone said that he would text me when I know exactly that he doesn’t have my e-mail address.”

Keito froze for a while. For some weird reason, he knew exactly whom Hikaru was talking about. He didn’t plan it of course. He just thought that it would be polite to do so, but apparently he realised that he didn’t have Hikaru’s e-mail address when he got back home. He tried to call Hikaru instead, but he just couldn’t get through.

“Ouch~.. That must be hurt,” Fujigaya looked up and crumpled an expression.

“Yeah,” Shoon nodded in agreement.

The English boy gulped, pretty much worrying what he should do now. He excused himself and made his way to the toilet. Grabbing his phone from his pocket, Keito quickly looked through his phonebook before then pressing the dial button when he found Hikaru’s number.

Yet, it was just like the other day when he tried to call Hikaru. He couldn’t get through at all. That was really weird, he thought. He was really sure that it was the right number because there was one time Hikaru called him, and his name showed up on his phone’s screen. “Damn it!” Keito cursed in English.

“Hikaru changed his phone number, and apparently, like always, he forgot to tell everyone about it,” a voice almost put Keito in shock.

Shoon was standing by the toilet’s doorframe with hips pretty much leaning to it. The younger boy just blinked. He didn’t expect Shoon to go after him, much more knowing that he was trying to call Hikaru. It was often freaky when Shoon did this kind of thing, thing when he could just appear out of nowhere or when he just knew something without anyone telling him. Keito wondered if it had anything to do with him being a law student.

“Eh?”

“You think Hikaru wouldn’t tell me why he asked me that question?! He wouldn’t be able to lie to me, even when I didn’t say anything,” Shoon grinned.

“Oh.”

“Here. His e-mail address,” Shoon pasted a post-it paper on Keito’s forehead as he chuckled. “Apparently, he thinks it would be weird to e-mail you when you were the one told him you’d text.”

After Shoon left. Keito took the paper from his forehead and stared at it. He wasn’t sure what just happened.

------

Being on the phone for hours wasn’t something that he had in mind after he e-mailed Hikaru, saying sorry about what had happened. Shoon told him not to tell Hikaru that he got his email from the older boy. Shoon even made him promisde that he would say he forgot to e-mail Hikaru the other day and that he suddenly remembered about it. Keito didn’t know why he had to do so, but he did anyway.

Hikaru kind of called him instead of replying his e-mail. At the moment, Keito was sure that he was dreaming. He believed that it must be a dream that Hikaru actually talked on and on about how he spent his weekend and how he thought he would meet Keito at the same exact CD shop but it turned out that Keito had location filming that day.

Keito just smiled and occasionally laughed at the way Hikaru talked about how he managed to change all of Daiki’s chocolate pocky with banana pocky and that Daiki didn’t even seem to realise it. Keito wasn’t a talkative person, and he was good as a listener instead. He found it amusing to hear Hikaru’s weird complains about his day. The tone Hikaru used when he grumbled about Inoo’s indifference when they were having a conversation on their way home on the train the previous day was kind of cute.

“Oh my god! I’ve been talking for two hours! Enough about me! It’s time for my English boy to tell me about his day,” Hikaru finally came into realisation.

“Me? Hahahaha. Nothing interesting, really,” Keito crawled to his bed and set himself comfortably there.

“Oh come on! Something must have happened,” Hikaru insists.

“Well.. you called. Hahaha. And talked for two hours straight. That doesn’t happen everyday,” he replied.

There was a pause for a moment there. Keito tried to check the reception, but it seemed that it was just the other line being all quiet and his phone’s signal was just totally fine. “Yaotome-kun?”

“Oh, sorry. I blanked out for a while,” the older guy replied. Even without seeing him, Keito knew that there was an awkward smile on Hikaru’s face.

“It’s okay.”

“Am I disturbing you or something? I’ll hang up now.”

“No, you’re not. Why would you?” Keito asked back.

“I don’t know. I mean, you said this doesn’t happen everyday, so I thought…”

“Really, it’s fine. I’m happy actually.”

“You are?” there was a change in Hikaru’s tone.

“Yup. Thank you so much for calling me. I’ve always wanted to have this kind of conversation with you,” Keito replied honestly.

“I’ll call you more often then!” Hikaru declared with a much happier intonation.

Keito just smiled, silently thanking Shoon for giving him Hikaru’s e-mail address.

------

Keito wouldn’t say he didn’t see this coming when Hikaru called him almost every single day, but to actually experience it happening, he was kind of nervous. He couldn’t make up his mind which shirt to wear, or which jeans to match it. It was even harder to decide which parka to wear because he would catch a cold if he didn’t wear any on in that windy autumn.

“Keito!! Your friend is here!” his dad shouted from the living room.

Cursing, Keito grabbed the black parka because he assumed that nothing would go wrong with black at the end of the day after all. He rushed his way out to the front door and smiled awkwardly when he found Hikaru standing right before it, grinning.

“I never know that you hang out with Yaotome-kun, Keito,” his dad commented.

“Oh. We meet up in town, usually,” he lied, taking his shoes from the shoes rack.

The fair skinned boy quickly dragged Hikaru out before his dad asked more question. He knew that it would be obvious that he lied if the little ‘interview’ kept going. Not that his dad would ask anything weird, but Keito never felt comfortable telling lies when he actually didn’t need to.

“In town, yeah? I can’t recall our hang out time though,” Hikaru laughed when they were far enough from Keito’s house.

“Well..” Keito looked down with cheeks turning red from the embarrassment.

“But we can make it our regular date place~,” the older boy grinned as he took Keito’s hand and wrapped his own hand around it.

Keito chuckled. Who would think that all his wasted time admiring Hikaru from far could turn out this way. He was happy with it, more than happy in fact. Especially because how natural everything grew.

“Shoon said he wanted us to pay him some sort of match-making fee. I don’t even know what he actually did to get us together,” said Hikaru suddenly.

Okay. Maybe not totally that natural, but well.

--------------------

I miss this pairing!!!! I don't know. Maybe I'm just blind that I didn't notice anyone writing on them anymore! Or maybe I am blind, because if there are actually fics on them that means I'm so stupid at checking my friend page properly.

Fluff stuff. Hope you like it. Comments are needed. ^__^
