Drabble Challenge #3 (HSJ, AriYama)

Prompt: They are the best of friends, when suddenly he realises that he is falling in love with him.

Yamada hadn’t really thought much about life. It had always been about work, and school, and maybe a couple of girl crushes. It was all about normal teenage boy’s stuff. The thing that he didn’t see it coming was the fact that maybe, just maybe, he was too fond of a certain member of his band, which of course undeniably from the same gender as he was.
Did he freak out? Oh yes of course he did. He had always thought of him as one of his bestfriends. They might not really actually hang out together outside work, but when they met, it was just all about buddies being wacky together. Like making funny faces in front of the camera, or the other boy trying to ‘seduce’ him in from of the camera and laughed out loud at the reaction that Yamada gave him.
At first all these seemed to be pretty natural to him, but it freaked the hell out of him the moment he started to feel a slight uneasiness when the older boy was being friendly towards the other members, such as Yuto, Ryutaro, Yabu, and especially Inoo. And by being friendly, he meant it as that boy, that Arioka Daiki, wrapping his arms around Ryutaro’s neck, playing some random silly games with Yuto, trying to gain Yabu’s attention, and of course… groping Inoo mischievously all over the place (worse, Inoo tended to do that too to Daiki).
But here he was, standing in front of the older boy, hands fisted together as he gulped, waiting patiently for the reaction that Daiki was yet to give him. He didn’t mean to tell him that he liked him. He swore to God, he didn’t. Yet this little thing called puppy love (and an additional of jealousy) made him blatantly say so and even asked him on a date.
“Sure~. A date, right? I’ll be there.”
Yamada blinked, wasn’t expecting this very casual kind of answer. Did it mean Daiki took his little confession as… another ‘I love you’ joke that he always told the other guy? True enough, it wasn’t something out of the ordinary for him to say that he loved Daiki. Even more, when Daiki asked him once in a magazine article of what Yamada really wanted from him because he never told Daiki what he wanted, he simply replied the older boy with ‘I want nothing. Just your love.’
And of course, they both just laughed at it. But this was different. He meant every single word he said (despite of the fact that he said it without even realizing it). “No, you don’t understand Dai-chan. A date as in a date. Just us. No Chinen tagging along or you asking Takaki to come along but leaving him behind on the bus stop again.”
“I know. Just us. Got it,” Daiki replied.
“No you don’t. I mean…”
Before Yamada managed to finish his explanation, Daiki stepped closer and rested his hand on Yamada’s shoulder. Now what?
“Don’t worry. I’ll be there. Just me,” he grinned. “Besides, I might actually ask you on a date myself one of these days. You’re just faster than me in this,” he added, tapping Yamada’s shoulder as he walked by. “Don’t be late.”
Yamada couldn’t think of an appropriate reaction to this but staring at the older boy’s back as he walked away, thinking that he was dreaming.

It got longer than I expected it would be. But maybe it can't be helped. I personally love AriYama, so maybe I got carried away with my bias-ness. LOL. Hope you like it.
P.S. I can't remember which magazine it was, and I can't remember who was asking and who was answering. But that thing is real :)
