This has been a lovely June day. I didn't have plans today and Whitney had to work, so I've had the afternoon to myself. I took my book to a coffee shop and treated myself to a cappuccino. Then I went to Jung's to get fertilizer for our tomato plants. I decided to walk through the large lot of trees, shrubs, plants, and bushes for sale. It's a happy thing to do, I don't know why, to walk through an open nursery lot on a breezy afternoon full of sunshine.
I came across several rows of rose bushes, not thinking of anything in particular, when these delightful little yellow faces smiled up at me from near my knees. I've always loved the full blooms of yellow roses and without realizing it, I smiled back at them. I walked on, a little more aware of the colorful flowers along my walk, stopping to admire particularly soft blooms. And just like when one makes eye contact with a handsome stranger on the street, I found myself walking back around to catch another glimpse of my new love interest. As I walked past, I picked her up and without even deciding to purchase the roses, I knew they were going home with me.
I went home and immediately planted her in the blue pot I was saving for our cucumbers. Now I sit on my balcony with my herbs and plants and new rose bush feeling a quiet kind of joy. I can't wait for my strawberry vanilla hydrangea to bloom next to it. They will be charming friends.
It's a wonderful way to start June.
