And Can It Be . . . ephesians 2:7

Apr 25, 2004 07:05

And can it be that I should gain
An interest in the Savior's blood?
Died He for me, who caused His paint?
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be
that You, my God, should die for me?

He left His father's throne above,
So free, so infinite His grace;
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam's helpless race.
It's mercy all, immense and free;
O praise my God it reaches me.

Long my imprisoned spirit lay
Fast bound in sin and nature's night.
Your eye diffused a quickening ray.
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light.
My chains fell off, my heart was free.
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread.
Jesus and all in Him is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine.
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

Amazing love! How can it be
That You my God should die for me!

words by Charles Wesley (1707-1788)

And you has he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past you walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, has quickened us together with Christ, (by grace you are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. ephesians 2:1-7

Blessed be our Heavenly Father, who out of the abundance of His love lavishes His mercy on us, His adopted children, through His tender lovingkindness by forgiving our many many sins at great cost to Himself through the death and separation of His Son Jesus Christ, who is our Lord and Savior, our only Hope to approach and embrace the Most High God of all creation. Lord, there are no words that can express how mind-boggling it is for You to sacrifice Your Holy Son for me, an impenitant rebellious speck of dust, one of billions and billions on this solitary blue planet, and yet You seek me to draw me to You. Because of Your infathomable love towards me You say that, even though You know every sparrow that flits though the trees and lands on the ground, I am worth many sparrows to You. Thank you Lord, thank you.
