This week has proven to be quite eventful. The highlight was probably having to rush into the ER on Thursday night when I had planned on staying home and catching up on a ton of hw then hitting the sheets early. But I didn't get so lucky.
I started having this unbearable lower abdominal pain....the kind that you know isn't gonna go away by the morning. I called kaiser and the nurse listened to my symptoms. She told me to get someone to drive me to the ER asap. So of course, my hero, Greg Lee came to my rescue at once. This was my most nerve-wracking visit to the hospital by far. The fuckers stuck an IV in my hand :( I am utterly and completely terrified of needles. So it took Greg and three nurses to hold me down. hahahah I am such a baby. I was so occupied with the needle in my hand and the wretched tube of blood filling up that I pretty much forgot about the pain in my lower right quadrant.
Then of course, the classic "waiting around for hours" game everyone experiences in the emergency room. They stuck me in a little room...took more blood, took urine samples, etc. They were worried about a number of things, one of them being my appendix. Finally the doctor comes in and decides to do an ultrasound. OH. and a PELVIC EXAM. sweet. So for the first time, a male doctor was gonna take a peek at my lower region. gah. uncomfortable.
so he proceeds with that then takes out the ultrasound machine and inserts it into....you guessed! my vag.
He does a little poking around and finds out.....
I have a ruptured ovarian cyst.
It sounds a lot worse than it actually is. Not life threatening, not cancerous, not gonna do a whole lotta harm...besides cause me immense pain for the next two weeks. Apparently, my hormones went a little out of whack and sent obscure messages to my ovaries and before you know it, I had an ovarian cyst. the pain i was feeling was the fluid that leaked out into my uterus when it ruptured. gross.
so he took a couple pictures and printed them out to show me all the drama going on up there.
lots of ibuprofen, hunching over in pain, and sleeping in fetal position is planned for the next few days. My body should take care of the rest on its own.
I'm thankful that it wasn't anything worse. got lucky this time.
