Mermaid Melody Musings

1. Fun show but the "potential items to make for sale" are easily spotted a mile away. I'd hate to be a Japanese mom if my daughter liked this show. XD

2. It's really hard to actually learn any vocab from anime. First off, you have to find a decent dictionary--which usually won't accept your guess at romanji, or the verb form (so you have to guess the -ru form), or you have to use an English dictionary and hope that the subbers translated accurately so you can find the actual Japanese.

3. It's hard, but you CAN learn some things from anime if you take the time to listen carefully. In one episode (that took over an hour to watch) I learned 17 new words.

4. Oh my gosh spoken Japanese is a lot faster than I'm used to listening! I almost NEVER hear the "ga" in any sentences until the 3rd or 4th time.

5. I need to speak slower to my students. =__=;;

6. I can see how this show appeals to Japanese girls. After all, Luchia is basically a one-trick pony karaoke princess--she only knows one, maybe 2 songs tops! And it's really easy to get good at one or two songs. It's much harder to, y'know, be a good singer. But if Japan is anything like China, you only have to master a "favorite song" or two when your friends go karaoking in order to be praised as a great singer

7. So in the episode where we learn Luchia will turn into foam if she confesses....she actually confesses as a mermaid. Lolwhut? Am I just using too much adult logic and not enough of my adolescent-love-is-wonderful-but-mysterious emotions?

8. I wish I had a pedo-bear counter for all the times Hanon lusts after her teacher.
