So a while back I decided to start burning CDs of classic, seminal, or otherwise interesting albums that I would never be able to afford purchasing. There's no single rule for what I would burn or what I wouldn't, except no "rock" allowed. so this is what I ended up with:
1) Jorge Ben - Africa Brasil. Seminal Brazillian pop album.
2) Gorguts - From Wisdom to Hate. Late 90s death metal. Classic of the future.
3) Sonny Sharrock - Ask the Ages. Classic avant-garde jazz guitar album.
4) Milton Nascimento & Lo Borges - Clube de Esquina. Classic Brazillian pop.
5) Caetano Veloso - s/t (1968). Seminal album of the Tropicalia movement.
6) Can - Tago Mago. Seminal Krautrock album.
7) Sly & the Family Stone - Stand! Classic American soul album.
8) Ashra - Blackouts. Late Krautrock album.
9) Jorge Ben - Samba Esquema Novo. Seminal first album of Brazillian pop genius.
10) Neu! - Neu! Seminal Krautrock album.
11) Trouble Funk - Droppin' Bombs. The best dance music ever made.
12) Caetano Veloso - s/t (1971). Introspective exile album from Tropicalia genius.
13) Scott Walker - Scott 4. Classic baroque pop album.
14) V/A - Nigeria '70 (disc 1). Compilation of 70s Nigerian funk.
15) V/A - Nigeria '70 (disc 2).
16) Curtis Mayfield - Superfly. Classic soul album.
17) Faust - s/t. Seminal Krautrock album.
18) Stan Getz & Joao Gilberto - Getz/Gilberto. Seminal cool jazz album.
19) Gal Costa - s/t (1969). Classic Tropicalia album.
20) Love - Forever Changes. Classic American pop album.
Do you think you know of an album that could make Volume 2? Tell me about it. Otherwise, all of the above are unconditionally recommended.
