Sorry, something was wrong with LJ recently; I couldn't reply to your posts. Bummer. But here I am with Poem Ideas!
1. Go for a walk. Pick up any object on your walk you think is interesting. While you walk home, think of the thing in your hands. What is its history? Where was it made? Who made it? What does it remind you of? Where does it belong? When you get home, plop the object in front of you. Stare at it a bit... Write some lines, never naming the object. Let the words come out of you.
2. Sit where you are, look around the room. Look in "general", not at any one thing. Just scan, sort of unfocused, your surroundings. What thing in the room pops out in your vision? Focus on that thing. You probably walk by it everyday. What is it? Why is it there? What does it mean to you? What could it mean to someone else in your family? Would anyone miss it if it disappeared? Write an "ODE" to that object. Call it, "To a ____________" (To a Fern, To a Television, To a Coke Bottle) Talk directly to the object. Praise it. Ask it questions. Tell it about itself. Here's a couple of serious examples (yours may be very silly): http://www.electricscotland.com/burns/mouse.html http://www.gnosis.org/library/odes.htm
3. Write about an action(ex: cartwheels, rollercoaster riding, etc.) or image (picture in your mind of ANYthing) that reminds you of the act of laughing.
How's that for a start? I hope your summer is great. I did drive through town searching for the Strawberry Festival, but it was POURING rain and we couldn't find it. We thought we passed a sign, so Nathan flipped a U-turn and we got a ticket. After that we gave up. It really was POURING.
I've been doing a lot of hiking and camping. I have coffee dates every Wednesday with friends. I'm pretty much taking it easy. How about you?
i am start with the "river" just brainstorm but when i finish it i will post this journal!
my summer is so awesome!I went to wildhorse canyon camp.It so enjoyed and having a Blast! i just got home about one week ago! i wish i go back there! there wonderful outside and i am getting tan bit.and this friday i am going camp my dad! i am so happy that i am going spend time with my daddy. also i miss school and friend! i think that all! lol
Sounds just like summer. I remember that Happy Camper feeling... like "condensed life".
I'm also having an awesome summer! For the Fourth, N. and I rode around the waterfront along the Willamette River while fireworks blasted near the Hawthorne Bridge (remember which one that is?) Camping rocks this summer! We got a new tent and have been backpacking a lot. My favorite thing about summer, however, is my Wednesday coffee date. Every Wednesday, I ride my bike through downtown to old town to a little cafe called Second Story Bistro and have coffee with my friend, shye. I love it.
I have lots of ideas for next year, English and Drama! Enjoy yourself now, for there is much work to be done in fall to get you ready for college, Senior! :) I'm going camping this Friday too! I don't know where yet, though. Have fun!
