Sherlock premiere screening (not air) date, an official pic supposedly from the first episode, timeline for Sherlock's being dead, and a hint at the direction the season's overarching evil plot is headed are all in this RadioTimes article.
I don't know if people will consider that information spoilers or not, so summary of the information (for the link phobic) with a bit of my thoughts on it behind the cut.
The Pic
Everyone is assuming it is the moment right before John sees Sherlock back from the dead. That seems the most obvious interpretation, but I don't know that it has to be that and am personally somewhat skeptical. It's definitely moody looking, though.
The Premiere
"The Empty Hearse, the first episode of the much-anticipated third series, is set to be screened at London's BFI on 15 December at 1:00pm."
I'm not all that happy about this. I'm sure they'll beg people not to post spoilers on the internet, but someone will. You know someone will. Also, there is still no UK air date. I don't see them doing it before Christmas so there would be a few weeks between the premiere and the broadcast, but I suppose I could be wrong and they could be closer together than I'm expecting.
The Synopsis
"Just one more miracle, Sherlock. Stop being dead’. For Dr John Watson it might well be a case of ‘be careful what you wish for’. Two years after the devastating events of ‘The Reichenbach Fall’, John appears to have got on with his life. New horizons and romance beckon. But, with London under threat of a devastating terrorist attack, Sherlock is about to take John at his word, staging his resurrection with all the theatricality that comes so naturally to him. If Sherlock thinks everything will be just as he left it, though, he's in for a very big surprise..."
I am so tired of terrorists destroying London and NYC. I'm sure it will be fine, but I really wish they weren't going the full-on terrorist attack route. That's more James Bond's territory than Sherlock Holmes's. Oh well. Like I said, I'm sure it will be fine and I'll love the show. Two years is a good gap, though, for Sherlock being dead. I'm glad they aren't compressing that to a few months or something.
