Day Two: Favourite supporting female character
There are several options. Going with one who is good in her own right but is also clearly a supporting character, there for her relationship with the male star, I'll say Mara Jade from the Star Wars Expanded Universe (see icon). Mara is the classic "strong woman" trope at first. She's a fighter, a force-strong assassin and a smuggler. She takes no lip off anybody. But barely scratch the surface and you find out she is seriously messed up. She was kidnapped and brainwashed as a child and her one goal in life is to kill Luke Skywalker. Her development from that to eventually marrying Luke, confronting her past and making her own future, is kind of cool. There are several fans who hate her as a Mary Sue type, especially in the books written by her creator, Tim Zahn, but I love her and find her a great foil to Luke's always dominant and strong character. They help each other grow, they're individual strengths and weaknesses complement each other well, and I just love her and their relationship. This is somewhat ruined in some of the later books, but we'll ignore that.
