I called my mom last night. Our conversation began something like this

*ring*
Mom: Hello.
Rachael: Hi!
Mom: You have power back.
Rachael: Yes I do!
Mom: You sounded too happy. It had to be that.

I know I've never been a closed-book kind of person. I carry my emotions pretty close to the surface, but I still think my mom must be a witch or something to have figured out I had power based on the way I said "Hi." Or maybe she just knew how desperate I was to get power back. We lost power Saturday due to the hurricane. I slept a my place Sunday and Monday nights, but my house is on a well with an electric pump so losing power meant I also lost water and by Monday I was out of gallons of water to drink and pour into the tank on the toilet so I would get dehydrated and couldn't use the restroom anymore. That's when I bailed and spent the next two nights sleeping on a friend's couch. She was great giving me a place to stay and all, but I'm so happy to be back at my own house.

Only other thing going on here is I had my first real class meeting with my seminar. We had the initial "Here's the syllabus. Any questions?" class before the hurricane, but that doesn't count for much. Yesterday's class was fantastic. I told them that because this class is a seminar, it is going to rely on them discussing things, not me lecturing. I think I asked my first question to get discussion started and then next had to speak 45 minutes later. They were so talkative and had clearly done the readings and were making good points and disagreeing with each other but doing it respectfully and always going back to the readings for examples and it was just fantastic! Now if only the entire semester can go like this.
