So, as some of you are aware, my birthday was yesterday. It kind of sucked because I was so scheduled with church, and chamber singers/Kindergarten performances.
Chamber Singers was not rehearsed and it was painfully obvious. She had people doing solos and some went well and others really, really didn't. My solo was fine; I was nervous.
Mitchell has really, really, really terrible intonation and forgot the words in the middle of the song, stopped, sheepishly walked over to the piano to get them, then said, "My bad."
Alek, poor dear, wasn't comfortable with the piano part because they'd never really rehearsed it. So, she sang it in the wrong key. She sounded great, she just wasn't in the same key as the piano. She performed it up and was adorable, then came off and was like, "Liz! I was in the completely wrong key and I didn't quite know how or when to fix it and..."
Josh was Josh.
Adam was singing The Policeman's Song from Pirates of Penzance. Before the performance Ms. Patterson was like, "Hey Liz, you know the echo part, right? Yeah, why don't you sing it with Adam." "Sure..." So, we'd never rehearsed it and I wasn't quite sure what I was supposed to do...so I was silly and cute and totally upstaged Adam, who sounded just fine until I surprised him and then...well, he recovered and we just giggle/sang our way through the rest. But, it was very entertaining and everyone enjoyed it.
Meredith sang and played the song she wrote, which is beautiful, but because of the orientation of the very live piano, the people couldn't hear most of it.
Jasen held music and didn't sound too great, but of course, nobody cared because he's so cute...which kind of bugs me.
Marissa sounded really good, though she didn't have any stage presence and her song went on for a bazillion years.
Kindergarten pulled together and was generally well received. Rose and I had big eighties hair; it was kind of scary.
Then, somehow, I got roped into doing the bucket drive. We decided to run away to Neil's house instead, but we were delayed a lot by Peet and her minions and we ended up having to go back to the church and...stuff. We finally started off for Neil's, an hour after we'd called him. Poor Robyn's feet were hurting and everyone else just wanted to be silly and leisurely, but I just wanted to get there because I felt so rude and I didn't want Neil to finally be like, "Well, they're not showing up. I'm going to bed," and THEN have us show up at the door like, "Heeeey."
So, as expected, I got really bitchy and withdrawn and awful. I was really hoping that this would be the birthday that DIDN'T happen, but no such luck. I slipped my shoes on, gave Neil a hug, and went walking to Dominique's because I just didn't want to be in a group of people anymore. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't the fault of the people I was with, just that I'd been with a bunch of people all day. So, I was harassed by scary drunken people because I shouldn't be walking late at night (especially on New Year's Eve) in Ypsi by myself, but wound up at Dominique's, safe and sound.
Oh, and the coolest present I got? Well, that's kind of tough. Dominique got me But Not The Hippopotamus, Disney's Robin Hood DvD, and Burt's Bees (all amazingly excellent and thoughtful gifts), Alex spent time with me, and Adam got me a pack of 96 crayola crayons. BUT the coolest present was definitely from Liong (sp?), the guy from the Gourmet Garden in Brighton that we frequent. (Patience and Mei are sweethearts and I love them too). He brought me an authentic buffalo horn ear cleaner from China. It's awesome, though I doubt I'll actually use it.
Eek. Long entry. Happy New Year!
