So I am sure that Laura is bound to disown me for this but I think that if Obama wins the democratic nomination depending on who he would chose for his VP and who got chose for the Republican's I might endf up voting Republican in the presidential election. In the end I prefer McCain to Obama any day...... so sad. Don't be too mad at me

1) He's the one who insisted on and comissioned an independ 9/11 comission

2) He fought in Vietnam, was captured and tortured for information. Later here in the US he wrote the bill that strictly prohibits the military from using torture techiniques for interrogation. Without this there would be no way to hold the tortureres at Abu Grahib

3) I like his stance on education, which gives parents vouchers so that they have the ability to send their child to the public school they think is best for their child regardless of what district it is in.

4)He doesn't believe in a constitunal ammendment prohibiting gay marriage. He supports the legislation being decided on a state by state basis and the roght for gay couples to receive civil unions and benefits in those states that decided to not allow an actual marriage.

5)I know that the war is not very popular and that we all want our troops home but I also believe we need to finish what we started or what was the point? Let's at least leave the country in a better state. And you know, I think alot of people have very bad misconceptions about what the military is doing. Yes there have been some really bad things but they have also done alot of good. They have contracted citizens toi help them with construction of new buildings and hospitals for example. So I think leaving a military presence there to help re-build and maintain peace is a good thing. Plus he has talked about increased funding for the military, which I know is also unpopular, but I think in a time when we have a bunch of troops who aren't being given access to even the proper equipment to stay safe increased funding for those in active duty and returning veterans is necessary. he also talks about re-training our troops to deal with the way warfare is being waged. Which you know, this is the thing that has been kicking our asses, we haven't changed out tactics since WW2 and none of our troops are trained in how to deal with gorilla war fare or peace keeping tactics. Considering the main problem this nation faces is one that deals with war and military I'd feel alot better knowing our president had real military experience.

6. He supports funding stem cell research using embryos that would have otherwise been discarded or perpetually frozen.

7. He worked with Joe Leiberman to make the Climate stewardship and innovation act which is all about helping reduce green house gas emmisions by working with the corporations and financing and rewarding companies that are working to develope new technology that will help with this. Not to mention he supports gradually moving us towards alternate energy sources.

8. Supports abortion when the pregnancy will endanger the mother, or in the cases where it was pregnancy caused by rape or incest. And you know I know Laura disagrees with me on this but I think that's how it should be. Really, there should be no other reasons to get one. I don't really believe in abortion to get rid of a mistake, don't have sex unless you think you can deal with the possibility of a child and use birth control methods. And you know what, yes people are stupid sometimes and forget to use a condom or whatever, or things don't go right and condoms break but then it's your responsibility to go get a dosage of Plan B to keep a possible pregnancy from happening. Not to mention pull out the safety net of I can always get an abortion if I do end up pregnant and maybe alot more people will start having safer sex and thinking about it more before having it.

Really if you look at it, McCain is considered pretty liberal for a Republican, and his stances on alot of issues are simmilar to Obamas own stances. But the fact of the matter is our country is in trouble, we have Iraq to resolve, escalating conflict and hostility towards us from Iran to deal with, and an economy that has turned to shit at this point. Amidst all that I don't think it is the right time for a relative newbie in politics to be running a country. And yes Obama did law school and was a civil rights lawyer for a long time but that doesn't count as dealing with politic on a national level.
