Character Info
Character Name: Tsume
Character’s Age: Looks 20-ish as a human, but in wolf form it’s hard to know. Kiba is only 2-3 years old in actuality, Toboe is considered a pup still, and many of the people in the series refer to them as “kids.” Tsume does display the maturity of an adult, though. Most times.

Fandom: Wolf’s Rain
Timeline: Episode 30, just after his death
Appearance: In his human guise, Tsume stands a little taller than most, although his height is not easily guessable nor stated anywhere. He’s probably tall enough to loom and be intimidating. Honestly, he’s all legs. His skin is a dark tan, his eyes are golden, and his hair, styled short with a small rat-tail, seems to be an off-white-greyish color. He’s not overly muscular. In fact, his body seems built more for agility than strength, although don’t let appearances deceive you. He’s always seen wearing a cropped, black, leather jacket that’s ripped wide open on the shoulders. Underneath that seems to be a tanktop of some kind, but it doesn’t cover his stomach. You can clearly see the most important feature of his look, which is the large, discolored scar on his chest. To complete his look, he wears black, leather pants and boots, and has earrings on both ears. Sometimes he wears sunglasses at night.

In his true body, is a normal Grey Wolf, with a dark grey top coat, and a lighter grey color stretching from his lower jaw to the underside of his stomach. He’s of a normal size for a wolf, although he may be a bit bulkier in the chest for greater strength. The scar he has as a human is the same as a wolf, large and discolored on his chest. He’s the biggest brat of all of us!

Personality: Tsume is stereotyped as the loner, hard-ass who keeps people at a distance. He’s the literal loner wolf. This is, for the most part, true. Tsume will reject to be part of a group if it isn’t beneficial to him. He prefers to be alone, and rarely, if ever, lets anyone get past the wall he’s built for the rest of the world. Honestly, though, can you blame him? His species is almost extinct; it can’t be very safe to get close to humans or anything else for that matter. Because of his singular nature, Tsume doesn’t seem to think much, at first, when others are hurt or die. He allows humans in his initial group of thieves to die left and right and doesn’t bat an eye at it. He’s looking out for himself before anyone else. He also doesn’t know the meaning of compassion, always treating every situation as seriously as possible. When he smiles, it’s usually only a quirk of his lips, or at most, a smirk.

Despite being a jerk, Tsume does hold a sense of loyalty and honor. While he may not care much about the humans he leads around, he would never rat out or sell out those he does ally himself with. Because he has seen humans do this numerous times, he doesn’t trust them, but at the same time, isn’t surprised when they display behavior like this. Once he dedicates himself to others, though, he will go to extraordinary lengths to protect them, even throwing his life on the line. Due to his past, he believes in being the first one in, and the last one out.

In extreme situations, Tsume can display heartfelt emotions. Underneath the rock-hard exterior, there is a caring being buried there. Even when he acts like he doesn’t care if others get hurt, Tsume does tend to keep a closer eye until the injured party starts feeling better. Death also affects him in weird way, making him especially moody. Whether human, wolf, or anything else in between, he doesn’t take it well and will draw in on himself.

Finally, Tsume is a warrior through and through. He’s always up for a fight or a challenge, and will never run from it. In fact, it seems to be the only way he can have fun. Whenever there’s a chance to get his adrenaline flowing, he’ll smirk wide in his human form, while his tail will stand straight on end in his wolf form. He also tends to act like a hyperactive kid whenever’s there “danger” in the air, but even more so under a full moon.

Powers/Abilities: Most of his abilities are what comes naturally for a wolf, such as heightened hearing, eyesight, smell, and taste. Wolves are also very strong creatures, can run for ages, and are able to clear a six-foot tall jump without a head start. Due to their species becoming all but extinct, wolves have evolved to become stronger (able to bend steel bars with their teeth), faster, and can jump farther (able to clear tall buildings in a one or two jumps).

Wolves also have a strange ability to charm and fool human eyes to see the animals as humans. They cannot fool any surveillance equipment, mirrors, robots, those in touch with their spiritual sides, and even their shadows show wolf forms. The tracks they leave behind are definitely of a wolf paw. Of course, the wolves do have to put in a certain amount of concentration to do this, and they are unable to drive cars or use guns. If their concentration breaks, their wolf forms will flash for a moment, but once the concentration level is regained, they will revert back to looking human. Tsume is the only wolf so far who is able to project the illusion that he attacks with a knife, which are meant to represent his fangs. Wolves can also “speak” the human language while they are in their true forms. While in their human forms, they can speak with any animal and understand them.

Finally, if they absolutely have to, wolves can gain energy from moonlight that will allow them to go on even if they haven’t eaten in a while. Wolves gain the most energy and strength from a full moon. A full moon can even help along their wounds to heal faster.

Limitations: Since most of his abilities are natural, the only thing that will be limited is his ability to hold his human illusion. Tsume will find it harder to fool others, and will have to put more concentration into it. Since he will be coming in from after his death, for the first week, he will be unable to make an illusion, at all. All others will see him as a wolf, no matter if they can naturally see his true form or not. His strength and agility will also be compromised for an additional week, due to his injury. After the third week, his leg wound will be completely healed, allowing him to bounce around like a jackrabbit on speed again.

I don’t feel limiting Tsume anymore other than this would exactly be fair, since he’s an animal, and even though he’s built for survival, it’s only slightly harder to kill/injure him than a normal, real-world wolf.

He had died.

In a sense, because he had died, he had failed. Failed to reach the end, but close enough for the failure to really sting. His last words had been “Let’s meet in Paradise,” but when he opened his eyes, Tsume knew he had strayed off the path. The first thing he saw was blue, so much blue it swallowed everything else. After a moment, his eyes adjusted and he was able to tell the difference between all the blue. A sky and an ocean.

Why was he alive? Why near an ocean? He had died on the mountain, the snow slowly drifting down as Kiba raced up the side after that Noble. He remembered falling on the frigid ground, his body hastily becoming the same temperature. He recalled closing his eyes, feeling so tired, so exhausted. He just needed rest.

He just needed to sleep. He would go after Kiba when he woke up.

Now he was awake, but there wasn’t a familiar scent to be found anywhere. He breathed deeply, surprised to find that his side had stitched itself back together. His ribs in perfect place, his lungs not filled with blood. The energy from his body was still drained and he felt like never getting up again.

And how could he? He was lost, everyone else was lost. Blue, Hige, …Tobe. Did Kiba manage to survive? He wanted to believe so, but the evidence all around him was quickly squashing that hope. This wasn’t Paradise, which meant Kiba had failed. Tsume didn’t understand if this was a second chance to find Paradise, or if this was the end of the line. A second chance was too much to ask for, especially when it meant that if he had gained one, everyone else must have, too.

His instincts knew otherwise, but that human side of him refused to accept the truth. After a struggle, Tsume managed to get to his feet, his previously injured leg still full of painful pins and needles. He would find his way back or die trying.

[He can’t fool machines, a fact he knows all too well. Tsume knows when he makes the call, all anyone will see is a wolf hovering over a phone. He doesn’t have much choice. He hopes, against all hope, that maybe one of these humans has seen another wolf around.]

Ah... [At first, he has no idea who to ask. His ears flatten out sideways, a sign of confusion, before they perk back up.] Don’t bother telling me how strange this looks. I demand to know if anyone has spotted other wolves. If you have, tell me where and you won’t have to stare at my face anymore. [His ears lay straight back as his pupils narrow.] If you waste my time, I’ll hunt you down and rip out your throat. Don’t believe for a second I won’t be able to find you, either. [His face returns to neutrality, waiting for an answer.] And hurry up. Time is working against me.
