ficlet: Stalked [sga]

I have committed kissage over at siegeofangels's Fakeout Makeout comment fest. It's, er, gen? Probably? (Yeah, yeah, I've sold out, I know. I'm not even going to tell you about the story I've finally settled down to write.)

(No, actually, it is gen. Really.)

John and Rodney, sitting in a tree )

all fiction, fanfiction, silly things, stargate

Thanks. ^_^

When I saw the fest, I was like "Kissing? I've never written them kissing. Oh, why not?" So I did. And they are both goobers.

I quite liked that. I loved how it turned the whole it's so unfair that the women are always throwing themselves at John trope a bit on its head by showing how being pursued isn't always welcome. I did read it as gen and I think it works better that way.

I can think of few things more freaky than having someone refuse to accept 'no' as an answer.

*laughs* It really is gen. And so is the story I'm writing. Mostly. It's--um, how do I describe it? It's what happened after I read one too many slash stories (because there is a serious dearth of regularly appearing, well-written gen, which I should probably take as incentive to write a lot more of my own) and thought, gee, I wonder what would happen if a character from the gen universe fell into the slash universe. And didn't get "converted", so to speak.

So, really, nothing to worry about. I have about eighty bazillion solidly gen stories waiting on my hard drive (and in my brain) to be written.

Oh, wow, I just read this comment--that sounds superb!!!

Absolutely!! I am a whore for truly skillful writing, and this fandom is just sucking me into so many stories that are *fantastically* well-written, but are NOT the type of fare my poor once-innocent brain should be mucking about in. And I wouldn't even mind the mere fact of slash so much, if it weren't that so many authors seem to consider it a good excuse to sexualize a story.... So by all means, fight the good fight! Put a canon charrie in Slashland and let him emerge unscathed!! Stand up for gen!!!

...But, you know, mostly just keep on writing as you have been--your gen has so very much richness and truth and beauty and spot-on humor, I just want ever so much more of it!

Well, I have the first part of the story up, if you'd like to read it: Someone Else's Shadow.

so many stories that are *fantastically* well-written, but are NOT the type of fare my poor once-innocent brain should be mucking about in. And I wouldn't even mind the mere fact of slash so much, if it weren't that so many authors seem to consider it a good excuse to sexualize a story

So TOTALLY with you there. Why is it that most gen stories seem to be the same whump hashed and rehashed? And most slash stories devolve into sex? Beautifully written, perhaps, but no, I really didn't need to have that in my brain, thank you very much. And yes, I did read it voluntarily, but mostly because I was hoping (vainly) that you wouldn't go there.

*sighs* It's tough, sometimes. I really should write more and read less.

Oh, I love it! J/R slash is so very pervasive, it's wonderful to see the first kiss scenario turned on its thoroughly-gen head! Great job! ^^

Because really, if a friend kisses you without warning, what's going to be your response? I know what mine would be, and it's certainly not the one that's usually written.

lol Exactly! And I love that Shep's just resigned to having to kiss him again, because letting him rant won't be very convincing, eh? But again, it's great that you can see that even the second kiss is so totally seated in the gen prickly-friendship context--just right!
