In which someone says something very nice to me

One of my coworkers is a lovely 80+ year old lady who writes in her spare time (including, but not limited to, MIIB fanfiction for her godson, starring Frank the alien pug). I learned that last fact about her yesterday--she'd mentioned her stories in passing before, but this was the first time I was able to actually talk to her about them. In response, I mentioned that I also write, and (at her request) gave her the link to my Wordpress site.

This morning, when I arrived at work, her first words to me were, "What are you doing here? You should be at home, writing." And then she told me that while she is a storyteller, I am a writer. An author.

It means something different when someone who's not related to you says that, someone who isn't a childhood friend, or a fellow fan. Who speaks bluntly and honestly and doesn't say something if she doesn't mean it.

I'm starting to think that

Oh, I don't know

Maybe I can actually do this.

writing about writing, personal things
