This is one of those ideas that are so good I wish I'd thought of it myself - but of course I didn't! Narcissus and Jaime, and Jaime and Cersei, fit perfectly into the modern world depicted here; the self-destructive edge to their relationship is even more apparent. I loved the silent presence of 'Dad' looming large throughout, allowing Jaime just enough rope and money to play as long as he toes the political (ha!) career line and avoids messy roommates. I may have grinned at Jaime majoring in communications and public relations, but no wonder he needs to keep getting high to pretend he's happy.

More grinning when I learned Brienne had made an impression on him with a Frisbee, and it's fun to see how Jaime responds to the sheer physicality of her, as like recognises like and wants to go out and play! ;) It's good that you've left it to my imagination at the end as to whether this is a cocaine-induced whim of the moment, or whether he has the strength to grasp at this reflection and discover it's a lot more satisfying in the long run. (My theory: he won’t be able to resist. LOL.)

Lots of clever ideas in here, and I loved the way you used the mirror reflections throughout!

Thank you SO much! The whole Narcissus thing with Jaime/Cersei practically writes itself, doesn't it? Hee hee. I'm happy that the modern setting and the cocaine worked here ( but OMG as writers, the things we Google, right? "What is a cocaine high like?" LOL). I figured the drug is his substitute for Cersei, and is just as self-destructive. And I definitely had fun using those mirror moments over and over again.

I feel badly for Jaime majoring in communications and public relations and STILL getting all Cs and Ds. Poor guy. ;)

And yes, like definitely recognizes like in this story. I love the thought that they are both trying to fit in and chafing quite a bit, and that it's Jaime who recognizes that Brienne can be SO MUCH MORE; he's only sort of projecting his own desires here. They really could help each other blossom, couldn't they?

Thank you again for your thoughtful comments. I'm glad you liked this one, despite the fact that it's AU. As I said before, I'm usually a purist when it comes to fanfic and don't like to deviate TOO much from canon. But this one had to be written. ;)
