Office Hours, August 14

Her favorite pair of boots had taken a vicious slash from a Gatbar demon's spikes last night, and because A) most of her wardrobe had already been shipped out and B) between packing and patrolling she was too frazzled to notice, Kennedy had worn them today anyway ( Read more... )

Well, Bobby was not a lawyer, but he was a TA and sometimes-financial-adviser, which meant he had paperwork of his own to bring by.

...Or he just liked bugging Kennedy. Possibly both.

He knocked on the door and then didn't actually wait for a response before wandering in. "Nice shoes," he commented with a snicker.

Kennedy mock-glared at him. "Too bad it's too late to get the demon who did it to pay for a new pair, huh?"

Yay, welcome distraction from staring at fine-print legal mumbo-jumbo; she gestured casually toward the chair opposite hers.

"So I'm thinking of getting a vacation house in Rio. Whaddya think?"

Somebody had seen the Olympics closing ceremonies. The 2012 ones, that is; she'd been watching the 2004 opening ceremonies yesterday.

"Too hot for me, but I bet Sookie'd love to visit, so... I say go for it."

"I knew you'd have good advice," said Kennedy, who would have done it anyway. "And that's on my dime, not the Council's, so no worries there."

She gave him a knowing nod. "Wouldn't want to make you have to rework more numbers, but come on, like I'd get a place without really good air conditioning?"

"I am the best at advice," Bobby said smugly. Not quite true, but whatever. "And yeah, I can't say I can see you putting up with heat when you don't want to."

"Duh." Kennedy flicked a rubber band at him. "Besides, how else was I gonna convince you to come visit? Like, during winter. Since it'll be summer here."

She gestured toward his paperwork. "Oh, hey. New stuff?"

Nice of you to finally notice, Kennedy.

"From the banks, yeah," Bobby nodded. "Have I told you how much I appreciate you letting me handle this stuff, by the way? I mean, thanks to weird-ass relative time-whatevers, legally in my world I've been out of college for a couple years now. Except... without all this I'd have nothing to put on my resume if I actually tried looking for a real job." Which was unlikely, given his circumstances, but he liked keeping his options open.

"Hey." Kennedy spread her hands. "I've got your back, right? You're helping us get up and running, your resume gets to look good--" and the look she gave him hinted that she couldn't see him with a real job-- "and it all works out."

She spun around in her chair once and added, "So, speaking of, is it weird that going to college is the thing that worries me the most about this whole move?"

"Not really," Bobby shrugged. "I mean, college is freaky enough when you're not also fighting bad guys as an extracurricular. And you went right from Fandom, where weird is par for the course, to a whole apocalypse-thing, and I'm gonna guess that even recently, especially with splitting your time between there and here, you haven't worried too much about projecting the image of yourself as just a normal-" not average, because nothing about Kennedy was average "-twenty-something who doesn't do all that hero stuff." He maybe knew a little about the whole leading-a-double-life thing, yeah. "But now, there's this whole group of people who you are gonna have to do that with. So, yeah. I don't think it's weird."

Kennedy laughed. "Yeah, with my friends, normal just isn't gonna happen. I mean, I was sort of starting to get adjusted to the whole idea and then that apocalypse happened, and ever since then, not so much." Her eyes warmed, and she leaned over across the desk to aim an extremely light punch at his shoulder. "It's good that you get it, you know."

Bobby just snorted. "Welcome to the story of my life."

"And this is why we're friends," Kennedy said cheerfully. "Seriously, if you don't come visit I'm gonna be sad. I'd invite you and Sookie to come see us when we come back here for Christmas, just so it's not too hot for the delicate flower that is you, except holidays with the Scoobies apparently tend to be a disaster waiting to happen, guaranteed."

Bobby snickered. "I can't imagine why."

"Hey, don't look at me. I'm not questioning tradition." Kennedy held her hands up.

"...maybe the holidays somewhere else would be a good idea."

"Holidays at Sookie's seem to go pretty well," Bobby pointed out. Heat aside, of course. "And you do owe us an appearance after you totally bailed on us last year."

... Never you mind that he'd actually been the one to deliberately bail on anyone.

"So not my fault," Kennedy protested. "And I... I'll see what I can do, okay? Promised the girl we'd do Christmas together-- okay, Hanukkah and Christmas-- but I do kinda owe you guys."
