Meme Post Day 4... finally...
Day 04 - A song that makes you sad.
Not hard, lately... But this one has seriously made me cry.
Day 4 - A picture of a habit you wish you didn't have
Right now I'm wishing strongly that I weren't such a flirt/tease with male friends of mine. It seems like it only ever gets me in bad situations; but I have trouble maintaining platonic boundaries for some reason. Hence my current mess.
Day 4 - Your views on religion.
My general view? Most organized religions are based on good ideas, but have been consumed and submerged with extraneous bullshit in the process of becoming massive organizations. As Gandhi said, "“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” People get all self-righteous because they are "born again" or "believers," and that's not what Christianity is about. Extremism, prejudice? That's not what any religion worth its salt is about. That's a big part of why, in my opinon, those who have been the most effective proponents of their faith are the ones who show it by living it - the quiet believers who are always supportive and accepting and wonderful to everyone, because they live what they believe instead of simply parroting scriptures and preaching at everyone.
I believe that there is SOMETHING, but I'm not willing to shape it into the mold of your average organized religion. The closest I've come is Baha'i, which is based on the belief that God is so unknowable that no one religion has it absolutely right; rather, all are little, limited glimpses at the whole. I've seen things happen that make me believe that they're not just happenstance. I try to be thankful for the blessings I receive. That's about the extent of my concept of spirituality.
