hey y'all
it was christmas. merry christmas!
we relaxed and ate a LOT. my parents drank more then regreted it again.
yesterday i spent the entire day with my best friend growing up, andreea. it was great! like i'd never left. how odd. i wonder what life would have been like, you know? hard to gauge.
today we will discuss driving in romania.
a few observations:
1. lane markers are more like suggestions. if no one else is around, why NOT drive in the middle of the road? there's plenty of room there! or, if your side of the road is icy, why not simply drive down the incoming traffic lane? it's so clean of snow and debris!
2. snow plow? what's a snow plow?
3. you need to drive in the middle of the road because all lanes are at best four feet wide. terrifyingly narrow, in fact. the snow piled on the side of the road: not helpful.
4. we drive on the right side, people. the left is just England. gawd. don't you people know anything?
5. the easiest way to get ahead in traffic is to hop onto the train line and cut ahead. what could possibly go wrong?
6. people still drive horse-drawn carts from place to place.
7. recently a law had to be passed forcing people to allow cars trapped in the middle of an intersection because their light changed to pass. before then, cars would be trapped in the intersection and the other direction of traffic would just swerve blithely around.
welcome to romania you guys. discuss.
