I saw this story on the BBC news site:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/beds/bucks/herts/3001507.stm St George should be replaced as England's patron saint by St Alban, according to a poll of BBC radio listeners released on Monday.
The third-Century martyr, who is remembered in the modern-day name of his home town St Albans in Hertfordshire, won a poll for Radio 4's Today programme.
And as it would it set me thinking. Finally a chance for England to right the slight of missing St Davids off the flag and redesigning it to oust St George and incorporate St David and St Alban.
The new Union Jill (cos we're not so sexist as to want to call it after a boy anymore now are we *g*) might look like this:
the blue background is Andrew & Alban
the gold X is Alban and the gold + David
the white X is Andrew & Patrick and the red X is Patrick
the black outline to the gold + is David.
So simple really we should all support this campaign for St Alban to be declared the new patron Saint, and to have a bank holiday on June 22nd to celebrate.
