Killer Fog

Jul 13, 2005 11:03

No really this is important I've just had a major breakthrough on *why* the killer fog of 52 was so bad.

Are you sitting comfortably? It was the the Brits obsession with a nice cup of tea.
end of tea rationing You see tea rationing ended in October 1952 and by December all those coal fires needed for the extra brews had built up in the atmosphere and we got the Great Smog.

And on a related note Lockerbie bomb
It may not have been London's, or even England's worse terrorist attack but as we're all being British about the events in London I fail to see why 15 miles north of the English border should mean that the 270 people who died in the Lockerbie bomb should be forgotten. Is it because it's plane related and that might make the Americans cry? Or is it because we're friends with Libya this week and don't want to remind people why we severed contact with them (ok there were a few other things going on too)

While the world at large is running around assuring us that they'll never forget last Thursdays bombs in all likelihood the majority will given time.
