I still can't get my thoughts down in any coherent manner and I feel a real need too but some rather dijointed ramblings instead
I spent today and yesterday at work doing pretty much the same thing - living on the BBC News website following live stories about London, and wanting to be there not in the Midlands
How far apart in content the two stories are.
Yesterday London celebrated, against the odds we'd won the prize and the Olympics are being hosted here for the third time.
Today London was hit by a bunch of cowardly terrorists and as I write the body count is still rising.
Me I feel a quiet (well maybe not so quiet) pride in London and Londoners. Do you realize that they’re walking away from bomb blasts and going to work, getting on with the day and discussing one of their favourite subjects - with more justification than most days - how they’re going to navigate the public transport to get home tonight, or tomorrow.
Its not a British thing, with over 200 nationalities living in London, every colour every creed and every permutation of sexual preference will have been directly touched by today’s events, its not even really a London thing a lot of the people affected will have come in for the day for work shopping or tourism.
Though maybe it is a London thing. The spirit of London that touches everyone in the city, a City that’s survived plague and blitz, killer fogs and royal weddings isn’t going to be overwhelmed by a few bombs.
If I was proud to be a Londoner yesterday I’m even prouder today of Londoners
edit:
thought I'd seen a quote by the
former New York Mayor about being near Liverpool St
edit2 (at least I'm keeping it in one entry)
sick humour is kicking in. It's 7/7 today. Now thats a date Americans & Europeans can remember without getting confused about when it happened
