Hey all!
So, let's see.
What's been going on? Ciaphas aka
samurai_bastard was visiting again this weekend (for his American Thanksgiving long weekend) and it seems like we mostly cooked and ate and watched movies, which was fine. :) Was a good visit. Saw a live broadcast of a London Opera performance, at the theatre - Giuseppe Verdi's Don Carlo with a very impressive set, awesome orchestra, great costumes, and fantastic singing. Awesome stuff. I want a brocade
doublet now. And maybe a tasteful little crown, and a cape. Hmm. None of those silly balloon pants, though.
Also had a few people over on Saturday night/Sunday morning - in addition to Ciaphas,
saviolo and
Suryastra showed up. We drank, played Apples to Apples, then a little Rock Band, and generally had a nice time, crashed, had breakfast, chatted, etc. Then last night
Darkone_kitty called, having found that the apartment he was moving into wasn't QUITE ready for habitation yet, so we hung out last night, and he crashed over. Poor guy, hope he gets things settled soon!
And I think that's about it for what's been going on at home.
As of this past Friday, I am in yet another department at work. I like this one much better so far. The work is a lot easier - create CAD models to match existing parts. No-brainer. If this could last until Christmas, that'd be great.
And the reason I say that, is that I just realized that today is the 1st of December and I have a ridiculous list of stuff I want to do before the end of this year, including preparing for Christmas and New Year's events!
Here's what I mean:
Have been doing a fair bit of work getting the main floor of the townhouse looking good. Did some minor furniture re-arranging, got some art up, some lighting things figured out, a lot of cleaning and organizing done, a number of smaller details looked at, and a fair bit of planning for some of the remaining larger projects I want to do. Having the majority of projects done for New Year's Eve is the goal I've set: as of now that includes patching some holes and painting a (simple) mural, hanging some more art, making and hanging curtains, cleaning the throw rug I have and getting another, and re-upholstering some floor cushions. More projects to come in the new year, including some major changes in the kitchen, and possibly a deck, or at least a box garden!
Further to that, my storage room has once again gone from "most things accessible and organized" to "if you can squeeze your fat ass past the burgeoning junk, you might be able to do laundry, but forget about getting at the furnace - or your winter tires". It actually angers me ("lack of functionality" in general is somewhat of a personal pet peeve), though there's no one in particular to focus that anger at. All of the roommates, myself included, are to blame in part for the swelling crap and its lack of organization. Breve gets his share of cuss-words for still occupying a significant amount of space (despite having moved out months ago), but in truth that's a small fraction of the problem that I could easily remedy in an evening by taking a carload of it over to his new place. Really, we (mostly I) just have too much crap, and the basement layout is not really optimal for storage - I've basically put shelving against every available wall surface, and still the junk piles up (most recently coming from the living room as I streamline the clutter up there). Not to mention that I have trouble throwing things out - something has to be pretty junky for me to not see some worth or future use in it. But I think I'm getting angry enough to actually do a proper round of "throwing shit out" real soon - ie. before X-mas. (Actually, it has to start soon than that - at least enough to get to my winter tires sometime in the next few days.)
Speaking of Christmas, I have some things I need to do on that front as well - mostly shopping for gifts, but also making fruitcake (which is a several-day-long affair). I also have some planning to do for New Years' - mainly food-related, but also organizational things, like inviting people and such. And I need to brush up on Christmas carols.
Which reminds me that I have a few other music projects lying around, needing cleaning-up. Oy vey.
Not to mention commissions! Why is it so freaking hard for me to work on commissions? (Oh, I know why - because it takes away from me doing my own projects! I wish I was more motivated by money and/or status, sometimes. It disturbs that it's so easy for me to keep putting these off. Just do it! Part of this weekend has got to be commissions.)
So yeah, there you have it - busy lion, as always - as soon as one project is laid to rest, another bubbles up to take its place! This doesn't even consider that it's skiing season again, or that I have fursuit upgrades that I want to do, not to mention a whole new fursuit project that's been bubbling about in my brain of late...
Oh, and after a few months of being on medication which has been successful in keeping it working properly, my stomach's been bothering me again - just in the last week or two. Possibly due to recent endemic lack of sleep, maybe with some additional diet-related aggravation - quite possibly largely related to recent increased levels of alcohol consumption.
Aiiiiieeeee!
