The Rape Kits, and other adventures.
So, been a while. Just want to toss a couple things out here.
First of all, a lot of my time lately has been sucked into a self-propagated personal project - to write, record and release some songs making fun of Sarah Palin - and do so before the US election.
It's been one delay after another, but I will have .mp3s out in the next few days. Had a lot of help from a lot of people, so thanks to Alex, Fuzzmonster, Surya, Cras, Ari, Ash, and Matt! Keep watching here if you're interested in the project, I'm hoping to have something available late tonight for the first song, "Para-Sailin' (Not Sarah Palin)", fairly basic straight-ahead rock-y punk. It's all DIY punk aesthetic, so it's a bit on the lo-fi side, but it's really actually coming out better than I expected - especially since I'm learning to play drums as I record! :) Next is the reggae-influenced (hopefully The Clash-like) "I Can See Russia", then hopefully "Lipstick on a Pitbull", and "Bitch with a Limp" (about a wolf doing unto Sarah Palin what she did unto him) - all by This Thursday, I hope!
EDIT: I suppose if I mentioned that the "band" releasing these songs is called "Sarah Palin and the Rape Kits", that would make the Subject line make more sense. :) /EDIT
Other than that, I am also playing guitar at Alex's art show on the weekend right after Hallowe'en (Nov. 1 & 2) - that's in Cambridge I think, so anyone in the area who wants to check out an art show of a fellow furry, and hear me play a few tunes, let me know! More details will be posted here later.
I'm also teaming up with Dralen as "The Hash Pipes" to sing raunchy / bawdy / funny songs at the Hash House Harriers Anniversary weekend in mid-November, which should also prove interesting... we'll be "wandering minstrels" at a dinner, going from table to table, harbingers of beer being sprayed through nostrils. :)
So, that was all music stuff, really. There's been so much going on this last while! Alex and I went to see Margaret Cho live for his birthday, though it was actually closer to our "anniversary" (it's hard to pinpoint when we started "dating", but we first met in person a year ago - seems longer, but in a good way). Freakin' HILARIOUS!
Hmm... DarkOne is moving back to Toronto, just started a new job here, so we had supper last night; Kzorith is in town this week, want to have dinner with him while he's here; NuDog has a concert Wednesday night which sounds pretty cool, I've got a ticket for that; Friday night I drive to Buffalo with Alex and Mith to go see StageLion as "The Dentist" in "Little Shop of Horrors" - that promises to be awesome!
Hmm... yeah, and on top of it all, my back has been fucked up - went for another therapeutic massage this morning, I think it really helped, but she said it was quite a knot I had, which was causing tension headaches - she spent the whole half hour almost exclusively on the one spot, just trying to get it softened a bit! Damn you, failing body!
Work is also thoroughly insane, in a new department that is a lot less structured and... well, it's tough. I feel like I'm caught in the middle of three hurricanes colliding.
