Today was the first day of ACE Camp (better known as Academic Team Camp...better still known as Nerd Camp), and I must say I stepped up to my coachly duties quite well. I gave a rousing motivational opening day speech to my 16 players who are at camp...hopefully they'll take something from it. The camp is at Furman, and seeing as I've already served my time in the dorms, I'm opting for staying at my place and just enduring the Dining Hall. Hey - it's free food!
I have a nice black and blue racquetball-sized bruise on my left side from where I fell yesterday. It'll be a nice shade of green by the time I have to don my bathing suit next week. Yay.
Tonight's subject is beating the system, and this is why. I received my teaching schedule this afternoon, only to find that my planning period was the dreaded 2nd block. Being some sort of coach of the Academic Team (which is a whole 'nother story itself), I have to travel quite a bit, which also means that I leave early on Fridays when we travel, which means I need 4th block planning. I called the right people, plead my case, and voila! It's fixed and all better. And I love the fact that everyone at school knows that I'm the Head Academic Team Coach next year except for me...nice of them to tell me, eh? An assistant has already been named too, meaning that I'm either the head or out altogether. I'll take either one at this point...
Nothing profound or super-meaningful to say today. I haven't read "The Ragamuffin Gospel" in a while. I need to get back on that. That'll be my goal for tomorrow morning.
In the meantime, I'm looking for able-bodied people to help me pack and move. Let me know!
Tonight I'm thankful for people who get things done.
