According to Toronto Star (who also linked the trailer) Fox has already paid for a full season, so we should get at least 20 episodes. And you totally nailed it - Ben is a brand new detective, Jim Gordon, who meets an 8 year old Bruce Wayne at his parents' murder scene.
It definitely looks like they're giving it plenty of promo already. I almost feel sorry for Ben being back on Fox with that network's history after the rocky ride with SL and networks. Just glad he's got the lead and is back on TV!
I was going to watch even if it was a police drama and regardless of the comic-related-genre, which are both usually major turn offs, but this makes it look like it could be more character-driven and less "ride the current wave." Hope that this turns out to be "the" one for him.
I am worried about it being on Fox, it would do better on the CW (because Arrow is killing it over there) but I am hopeful.
I think it's more about the 'normals' behind the superhero curtain than the actual superheroeing. Since I'm so into superheroes right now, I'm very interested to see how it comes out.
There is that double-edged network sword, isn't there? Of course that would go with a CW network too. A show could run there for years and years that would never see the light at all on another network, but there's also the CW stigma with many as a sort of junior network. Actors and crews have steady work, but maybe not the best perception. Hey, can't control the network that gets the winning bid to air the show, so all involved have to let it go and roll with it.
It does seem like it's about the characters and any real superhero connection is secondary. If TPTB are smart, they'll use that to cast the widest net for the biggest following and appeal. Should be right up your alley!
I wasn't actually a big fan of Nolan's trilogy, I quite liked the first one, the second one I stopped watching half way through because I just found it so damn bleak and depressing, and I haven't seen the third one at all. So, when FOX said they were making a pilot based around Batman, I just thought, really? Then they cast Ben McKenzie and I thought, hmm interesting choice, and now the trailer's been posted and bugger it, it looks really interesting, a character driven piece.
And I did really like BM in The OC, I would really like to have him back in my regular viewing- I never really got into Southland, even though it was obviously a good quality show.
Is it just me, or does it look more like an FX show than a FOX show, and that's no bad thing when it comes to this kind of material. Let's hope they don't bugger it around the schedules like Firefly and Fringe!
I haven't actually seen any of the new Batman (Batmen?) movies but I am interested in this simply because of the mythology - the villains had to come from somewhere, you know? I hope it's not like Smallville, I'm really hoping it stays focused on the non-superhero heroes that were fighting the good fight before Batman came along.
I am still not a fan of Ben as a cop, but I am curious as to how this will play out for him. I hope it's as good as Arrow but I have zero faith in Fox. FX would have been so much better.
You haven't missed much (from what I can tell by fast-forwarding through the three-quarters of it that were centered around the bad guys instead of Batman/Bruce Wayne. Too bad, cause I really, really enjoyed the first one and I like Christian Bale).
The trailer for Gotham certainly looks interesting--I might give it a try when it airs, if only for Ben. ;)
