Yuletide Letter '11

Dear Yuletide Author,

Everyone says it every year but I really will be so pleased to receive any sort of story in any of the fandoms listed below. Really. Seeing tiny fandoms get love is thrill-inducing all on it's own and any way you choose to play with the canons below will probably turn me into a puddle of glee. Relax and have fun. Please.

Two seconds in this journal will reveal my obsession with extremely-close-male-friendships that border on the homoerotic, and that obsession is definitely what prompted two of these requests (and possibly all four if you look close enough). My tastes in romance do tend toward the non-heteronormative (however that plays out) but if that's not your thing don't worry about it, because I love me some gen, too, and most of my requests lend themselves toward gen anyway.

It's really all about the characters in the end.

The Wire
Character: Duquan Weems
Details: I want a fix-it fic for Dukie so badly. Maybe Prezbo manages to save him. Maybe he saves himself. Maybe he even lives a fulfilling life as a junkie somehow. Just something to get him out of the junkyard that's the last place we see him.

Season four is probably my favorite of the show, and the bits between Dukie and Michael in season five made me really happy, so, needless to say, where the show left Dukie kind of crushed me. (I know to expect this from The Wire, but what else is fanfic for if not fixing things like this?)

The Wire is too smart for me, and I readily admit this. I can't keep the characters straight, and I often forget vital plot lines, but I loved it anyway, and this tended to be because of the way I latched on to certain characters. Other favorites of mine were Prezbo and Bubbles. Maybe Bubbles and Dukie meet and form a bond somehow? I don't know. I never offer to write this fandom cuz it intimadates me so, so if you have, good on you. You're braver than I am. Just make Dukie happy, if even for a moment--I'm not opposed to bitter-sweet things--and I'll thank you profusely.

Don Giovanni - Mozart/Da Ponte
Character: Leporello
Details: I'd love something exploring the bromance I perceive between Don Giovanni and Leporello (or the straight-up romance, if you're up for it), but any sort of Leporello character study would be awesome.

I've seen numerous versions of this opera since I was a kid, but the one that has rekindled my obsession with it recently is the most recent Met performance. I want to the live simulcast thing they do and was blown away.

I'd forgotten how much I love Leporello. Whether I love him because of Sam Gamgee or Sam Gamgee because of him will never be known. But they both fill that place in my heart where devoted servants go. Any exploration of Leporello's emotions about serving Giovanni would intrigue me. He's got to have some mixed feelings about it, but Giovanni's such a charismatic man who has such wild adventures that Leporello clearly loves it a bit too. Just listen to how proud he is when he sings to Dona Elvira about Giovanni's conquests.

This story could be set in the aftermath of the opera, with Leporello dealing with the loss of Giovanni, or right in the action, or on some romantic escapade before the opera begins. Anything that explores Leporello in more depth than we're allowed to see in the opera would be phenomenal.

J. Edgar (2011)
Characters: Clyde Tolson, J. Edgar Hoover
Details: I don't even know how to explain what I want from fanfic for this movie. Something from Tolson's POV? The men he slept with because he couldn't sleep with J. Edgar? A friendship between him and Helen Gandy that kept him going?

I was totally unprepared for this movie. It blew me away. Tore me open and destroyed me. (Those close male friendships mentioned above? This movie hit all of those buttons for me.) As I said in my details, I don't even know what to request about this film. I just know I want more of it, as masochistic as that makes me.

I loved Tolson, I loved the clothes, I loved the repression and angst. I don't really want to ask for a "fix-it" fic for this. I just want Edgar and Clyde running around being their repressed, sad, selves, and Helen Gandy being a BAMF. Um. I'm sorry this is totally unhelpful.

Some Like It Hot (1959)
Character: Jerry "Daphne"
Details: I'd love to see the adventures this quartet have after the closing scene. I imagine they get up to some pretty wacky shenanigans. The more fluidity of gender involved the better. (My personal theory is that Osgood knew what he was getting into the whole time with Jerry/Daphne, if you want to explore that idea that'd be cool.)

I was only introduced to this movie this year, and I loved it. I loved how sexually free it was. And I loved Jerry's total fluidity in his gender. I realize it was all played for laughs in 1959 but I think it can be reinterpreted as a pretty liberal text. Like I said, I want to see the wacky adventures these four have. Do they start a band and tour small tropical islands? Some background on Jerry and Joe's friendship would be fun to see too. Anything that stays in the spirit of this tongue-in-cheek, giddy, romp will be a great gift.

yuletide, the wire, some like it hot, don giovanni, j. edgar
