between the eisenhower bore and the north-south hogback is the most beautiful stretch of highway.
lush forest green and light sky blues, snowcapped peaks, manor houses on hillsides and just enough traffic to make you feel welcome, but not slow you down. the old mining towns living below the poverty line, still dependent on the novelty of fool's gold and children's naivete. the way the road and the river dance around each other, back and forth, the last remnants of winter now just ice flows.
you can forget everything. it almost makes this all worth it.
