My college senior thesis: A mythological feminist scifi comic book script

I still can't believe I was allowed to graduate based on a comic book script!  I sure had a blast writing this to complete my bachelors degree in English.  After having a look back at it, I thought I'd share it here.

Andromeda's Choice combines Greek mythology, gender identity, feminist angst, and robots into a coming-of-age comedy of stellar proportions.

In the not so distant future, an idealistic young woman struggles to find her place in the still sexist solar system.  Following popular "space taste" fashion she is named for stellar phenomena.  But unlike her parents, Andromeda is all too aware that her namesake, apart from being a galaxy, is also the archetypal powerless damsel-in-distress of Greek mythology.  Recoiling from this stereotype, she careens headlong into its opposite: Medusa, the man-destroying female monster.  Meanwhile, her ideals are challenged as she battles to make it in the "real world" beyond the academy.  Her attempt to support herself by trucking cargo between planets flounders, and she is forced to take on a first mate.  Enter Checkers, an android won in a teen magainze contest, whose personality program is limited to five settings, including "teen dream", "strong and silent", "sunset sentimental", and "untamed rebel."  She keeps him on "gay best friend."  Turmoil ensues when an intelligence upgrade causes the android to become aware of its own cliche.  Andromeda and Checkers vie for the title of drama queen of the stars.

You can read the full script here.

Note: It may raise eyebrows that I, a dude, would deign to write about feminist angst.  Ultimately my only response is: well, just read it first and see what you think.  Then if you still feel suspicious you can tell me so.

robots, science, stories, society, human rights
