Longer nights...
I still can’t sleep right. I have been up late and waking up fine for the past few nights, but I think that had to do with the help of old Mr. Singha. Alcohol will always help me fall asleep. Yesterday, I had the afternoon off, and since I am really sick, I figured I would lie down and nap. I slept for almost 3 hours and it felt great. I then got up, did some things and had dinner with the guys at the bar called Chewy’s, which is the TEFL hang out of sorts. It is a nice restaurant, the woman who owns it is super nice and they have a free pool table. We ate dinner and bull shat for a couple of hours. I left early because I was tired and figured a good night of sleep would do me good. I slept for about 4 hours and now I am wide-awake again with 5 hours to go until my 12-hour day starts. Great. I’ll get the hang of sleeping one of these days, I swear.
I have been really sick. Lots of time spent in the bathroom, my stomach in knots and I am uncomfortable at all times. I took a few charcoal pellets yesterday and they helped quite a bit, but I still feel kind of nauseous. I am going to try to take them again for my stomach today before I try the antibiotic. Traveler’s diarrhea is a bitch.
On a completely unrelated note, the food here is amazing. The fruit is so strange and delicious. The main courses are filled with either noodles or rice. Curry is in almost everything. Most dinners will make your face turn red and sweaty because it is so spicy (it doesn’t bother me that much, but even the mild stuff bothers Nick quite a bit). Seafood is always on the menu and most of the food is served immediately after you order it, I don’t know how they do it. The food is delicious though.
I am going to get a few more Thai lessons in the next few days, and I am quite excited. Soon I will be able to say more than just hello. It isn’t really necessary to know the Thai language to survive here, everyone speaks English anyways, and if they don’t, you can usually figure out what you need to say anyways. I still want to learn the language. Because it’s fun.
I really haven’t had much time to do much else besides school. It sucks up nearly all of my day, everyday. This weekend I will try to do something quasi-interesting, and take pictures for everyone to see.
I just finished my first teaching lesson with Thai students. I think it went fairly well; I didn’t freak out and throw any desks, so other than that, I am happy with the outcome. I was sort of nervous, but not too bad. It was more fun than anything else; I got them laughing and having fun, which is all that matters. They were wonderful wonderful and smiling the whole time. It was great to be able to teach to them. They were very attentive and smiling the whole time. My teacher, Urica, said that they were raving about me after the class too, which is good because they like me too.
The rain is crazy here. There will be a torrential downpour for 5 minutes and then it is sunny again. Everyday there is rain rain soaking wet rain. It’s nice because it cools the temperature right down for a little bit. Too bad there wasn’t a way to get rid of this humidity.
I'm sorry that my journal has taken a turn for the boring lately, I have been completely overwhelmed with work and stress. I swear I will have some interesting pictures up soon. I am going to walk to a peak so that I can see almost the whole town tomorrow, I am also going to a Thai boxing match tomorrow night. One of the guys, a Scottish guy named Chris, trains as a Thai fighter so he is going to take me to watch a few matches. I'm pretty excited. I also think that a few of us are going to go to the beach on Saturday. I promise I'll stay out of the red flagged zone this time. I swear it.
