I'm a nerd!

So I'm thinking, if people are interested, I may occasionally do LJ entries about grammar rules and how I remember them. Because I have to remember so many of them, every day, and I certainly don't remember them in the way they taught me in English class (hell if I know what half the parts of speech are called). I just know what sounds right. :P So ( Read more... )

:D yeah. take some of the load off my back. though i don't beta for anyone. just in case you read something & hit a mistake (because i never make mistakes, obv ;))

I've decided, I definitely will. I just haven't time to do one up yet. :)

I don't beta either, just 'cause I don't think I'd be able to do it in a timely manner that the writer would deserve. I'd be feeling guilty *all* the time.

But I'm always open for questions or requests. :)

i used to beta quite a bit. but i take a long time to, & that was before uni got psychopathic :(

yeah, i'll do short pieces on request. like the one anda (breejalil; that's my nickname for her) just upped. it's all grammar, though. watching for consistency makes me take even longer :D

hm. this makes me think - maybe we should think about setting up a beta page on TWA...

:P

That's not a bad idea (a beta page), especially if it's just people wanting some quick help for something short (like breejalil's, which I fully intend to read because it's about zombies, and I love that game! lol). Maybe it'll help people be more likely to post things, after they've gotten a confidence boost from a beta.

nodnod. i think you're right, about the confidence boost. it'd also up the quality of writing :) well, grammatically. & if people wanted to beta entire stories, they could do that, too. we'd have to have a standard for betas, though. people must know what they're doing.

*wheels churn brains in head*

i'll def run this by the other mods. we have serious talking to do anyway.

if it safe to say you're on the list of betas?

Sure, you can put me down for that. Though if you have "preferred types," I'd be under shorter. lol. Though I guess a longer one would be okay if the writer was *really* slow. :D

Actually, you could do a system similar to FP's, where the beta-possibles can put what kind/genres of stories they're interested in, etc.

exactly what i was thinking! great minds, great minds. :D

i'd prob make a condensed form for people to fill. those fp ones were all over the place. i had one up, but i took it down because there were too many requests. i have enough trouble beta-ing one thing! guh, & i thought no one ever went to my profile anymore.

do you know if they ever made the list of betas more organized? i haven't looked since i stopped taking requests, but i know in the beginning it was just a list of pen names. which is ridic.

I'm not sure. I don't know when you did it. I looked at it in the middle of last year when my friend who usually reads was on hiatus and I needed a beta. I want to say you could sort by genre, but once you got in there it was just a list of names. I had to click through a bunch until I found one that caught my interest.

yuppers. i want to avoid the list as much as possible. one thing that'll help is there def won't be as many people, though :) i think i shall get people to PM me a form if they're interested & i'll see if i can organize something from that info :)
