"I don't freaking care anymore Veronica!"

"I don't know what to say, I really don't."

"You know what? Quote one of those romantic comedies you're always forcing me to watch if you have to. Just say something that makes me believe you want me."

"Which one would you like to hear? You had me at hello? I'm just a girl standing in front of a boy…"

"Feeding him lines he doesn't believe anymore? Come on Veronica; give me something I can work with. Just be honest for once, I don't care if it hurts, just tell me how you feel!"

"It's just ... complicated."

"No Veronica, it's just Logan."

"If you'd just let me tell you what happened…"

"What I want you to tell me is that you want me! Or that you don't, just make up your mind!"

"I told you, if you'd just stop talking and listen to me for a minute, I could explain things!"

"You know what Veronica? Let me quote a movie for you. Frankly my dear I don't…"

"Troy wait…"

Four Months Earlier

Veronica frowned as she walked toward the movie theater with Wallace. "You do realize we could be at home watching Grey's Anatomy?."

"What? Are you needing your Alex fix? Girls around the world are running around screamin' about Dreamy and Steamy and you're all about Alex. You just have to be different don't you?"

"They should really call him McPretty because he so is!," Veronica smiled brightly.

"You can watch Grey's when you get home. Tivo truly is a magical thing," he sighed.

"Still, I can't believe I let you drag me out tonight."

Wallace shook his head, "V, you need to have a little fun. Every since Logan hooked up with Parker you've been all sulky."

"I have not been sulky!" Veronica huffed.

"Aloof, detached, in a serious mood, call it whatever you want."

"My, my, someone's making good use of his thesaurus," Veronica laughed.

"Hush, you know it's true."

"What I know is that I will totally figure this movie's ending out in the first ten minutes," Veronica smirked.

"Girl, you really gotta learn to leave your PI badge at home. Sometimes, a little suspense is a good thing."

"I've had enough suspense in my life. I think I might try my hand at that thing they call normal."

Wallace shook his head and wrapped his arm around Veronica's shoulders, "I hate to break it to you V, but normal is something you'll never be."

"Can't you at least let me dream for five seconds before you wake me up? Sheesh."

"All I'm sayin' is a good movie might do you some good. I know watching Logan and Parker hang all over each other has sucked for you."

"Did you forget that I broke up with Logan?" Veronica sighed, "I've moved on."

"And I missed this how? You really think you and Echolls can ever move on from each other? Just when I think it's over, one of you manages to pull the other back in."

"Not this time," Veronica frowned. "Logan is with Parker, and I'm happy for them."

"And I'm happy that Brad got Angelina too, except in my dreams when that girl is doing mad things…"

"Please spare me the details of your torrid dreams," Veronica cringed.

"Well hey; at least summer is almost here. Parker will be going home for awhile, right?"

"Your point?"

"You won't have to watch them together for awhile."

Veronica ducked her head and let out a sigh. Was she a horrible person to be glad that Parker would be going home soon? Parker was her friend, and she was glad that she was happy. But there was a part of her, a big, huge part that wished she could be happy with someone other than Logan. Even though she had broken up with Logan, she still lov… cared about him and she wasn't sure that would ever change.

The sad thing was she was the one with the issues, and Logan, he deserved happiness in his life. Just because she couldn't forgive him for sleeping with Madison didn't mean she didn't want him to be happy. She just hated that he was happy with one of the few friends she had in the world.

"Parker is my friend, I'll miss her." Veronica tried.

"Do you have any idea how rehearsed that sounded?"

Veronica smiled, "I'll never win an Oscar. That breaks my heart a little."

She watched as Wallace gave her a look and she sighed. Wallace Fennel had been there for her through some of the hardest times in her life. When Lilly died she thought she'd never have another best friend, but Wallace had proven her wrong. He was there for her, no matter what the problem. She owed him so much and she knew deep down he was a better friend to her than she had been to him.

Wallace suddenly stopped walking and looked to his right, "Hey, isn't that Troy Vandegraff over there with that hot girl?"

Veronica turned her head in the direction that Wallace was pointing and frowned. "I don't know. Do you see horns and a pitchfork?"

"You know I thought I saw him on campus last week, but just figured I was seeing things," Wallace spoke.

Veronica let out a sigh, and watched as Troy turned toward them. His eyes widened and his mouth quirked up into a smirk. Great, Troy Vandegraff had spotted her; suddenly she really wished she had said no to movie night.

"Why is he coming over here?" she questioned Wallace. "Am I doing my be gone glare wrong?"

Wallace shrugged his shoulders and waved at Troy, "I dunno, you know the dude. He doesn't take a hint well."

Veronica pursed her lips together and watched as Troy practically strolled over to them, a tall girl with long flowing blonde hair not far behind him.

He smirked at her, and for a second she remembered the boy she once thought he was. She had liked that boy, but he wasn't real, he had never been real. No, she didn't trust the guy in front of her, it didn't matter how many times he declared he had changed. She couldn't, wouldn't trust him. He had hurt her once, and she wouldn't risk letting him hurt her again.

"Veronica Mars, looking lovely as always," he spoke carefully stopping in front of them. "Wallace, good to see you again."

"How's it going man?" Wallace questioned the words coming out carefully.

"Well I haven't been arrested lately, so that's a plus," he joked.

"Walking the straight and narrow now are we?" Veronica questioned.

"I'm trying, though I hear we can't say the same about you," he smirked. "Heard you got arrested not long back. Veronica, such a bad, bad girl."

"Careful Troy, you're girlfriend might get jealous," Veronica spoke crossing her arms.

"Somehow I don't think Layla is going to get jealous," he laughed. "She's my cousin."

"Cousin huh? Nice," Wallace smiled, extending his hand to Layla, "Wallace Fennel, it's nice to meet you."

"And the hotheaded blonde is Wallace's best friend Veronica." Troy added with a sly grin.

Layla smiled, "It's nice to meet both of ya'll."

"Do I detect a southern accent?" Wallace questioned with a teasing grin.

"Yeah, when my parents divorced my mother took me and moved back to Mississippi," Layla nodded. "I moved here last year after I graduated and started to Hearst."

"Wait, you go to Hearst?" Wallace smiled, "I can't believe I haven't seen you around."

"You don't play basketball at Hearst do you? I swear I saw you at a game once," Layla asked with a tiny smile.

Veronica watched in amusement as Wallace stood tall and proud. She was actually glad to see Wallace away from his books for once. Flirting with Troy Vandegraff's cousin, however, bothered her slightly.

"Yeah girl I play, not as much this year as I would have liked. I had to put my education first, you know?"

"That's awesome," Layla spoke stepping closer to Wallace. "It's cool to see a guy that cares about his education."

"Speaking of education, I started at Hearst this semester," Troy added, tossing Veronica a smile.

"Pity, I just assumed when I didn't see you on campus last year you had decided to go elsewhere." Veronica smirked.

"Yeah, well I wanted to give people a chance to forget the whole rape accusation ordeal. Now that you've put the bad guys away however…"

"Wait, is this the same Veronica that saved your butt from jail last year?" Layla questioned, smacking Troy on the arm.

"That'd be me," Veronica answered with a perky tone. "Do I dare ask what other things Troy said about me?"

"T also said you were a spitfire, among other things..."

Troy let out a cough, "I think we better be heading in to the movie."

"Hey, do you two want to join us?" Layla questioned, giving Wallace a tiny grin.

"I don't know, Veronica?" Wallace asked, eyeing her for a second before he turned back to Troy and Layla, "I think we'll pass this time, BFF night and all."

Veronica saw the disappointment in Layla's eyes and sighed, "I suppose we could all sit together, as long as there is a clear seating chart."

Wallace's eyes brightened and he smiled at Veronica, "I think we can manage that, right Troy?"

Troy smirked, "I'll be on my best behavior Veronica, although if you had asked nicely I would have been willing to sit next to you. We could have shared popcorn, talked about old times."

"Talking during a movie? Have you no manners?" Veronica asked with a fake gasp.

"As I recall you have a habit of talking yourself through the whole movie. There's not a plotline that Veronica Mars can't figure out within the first twenty minutes, am I correct?"

"Actually, it's ten minutes now," Veronica smiled.

"I stand corrected," Troy acknowledged.

"If you two kids are finished, can we just go watch the movie?" Wallace questioned.

"Works for me," Troy nodded.

"Cool," Layla nodded, stepping up beside Wallace.

"Yeah," Veronica sighed as the foursome headed into the theater. "I can't wait."

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"I'm not going," Veronica spoke as she opened the door to her apartment.

"V come on, the way I see it, you owe me," Wallace huffed shutting the door behind them. "That girl is all kinds of hot, and she wants to go out with me!"

"Then go out with her," Veronica spoke crossing her arms.

"You heard her; she wants you and Troy there, too. C'mon, I've been very lonely for a long time and Layla, she's America's Next Top Model fine."

Veronica sat down on her couch and stared up at her best friend. She had spent the night watching Wallace and Troy's cousin flirt with each other. She on the other hand had spent the night trading barbs with Troy , until she got tired and locked herself in Wallace's car.

Veronica narrowed her eyes, "I'm not spending another night hanging out with Troy Vandegraff."

"I've spent the last year of my life studying or practicing ball, Wallace has got to get his groove back, girl."

"Your groove back? You did not just say that!"

"Yes, yes I did."

"With Troy's cousin? Can't you groove with someone else?"

"Hey, I know you don't like the guy, I've got my doubts about him too, but Layla is amazing."

"Oh yeah?"

"Yeah, she played basketball and softball in high school, and she had a 4.0. Beauty, brains, and the girl can play ball?"

"You do realize I'm going to run a background check on her, right?" Veronica frowned.

"Yeah, yeah, wouldn't expect anything less," Wallace shrugged.

"I still don't understand why she needs me to tag along."

"Because she's shy, and it would make her feel more comfortable."

"Are you sure it's not because she wants to hook me up with her lying, scheming cousin?"

"Hey, I'm just tellin' you what the girl said," Wallace laughed. "So, does that mean that you'll do it?"

"Will I sacrifice myself so you can hook up with a southern belle?"

"Hey, it's what best friends do," Wallace spoke faking a pout.

"Fine," Veronica grumbled, "I'll do it."

"That's my little marshmallow!" Wallace laughed.

"But I'm bringing my taser just in case!"

"You know, I think that might actually turn Vandegraff on," Wallace joked.

"Not amused," Veronica huffed.

"Too bad, now if you'll excuse me, I've got myself a pretty little blonde to call! Wallace Fennel is back in the game people, watch out!"

Veronica laughed loudly as Wallace spun around and did a little dance. Only her best friend could get her to agree to hang out with Troy Vandegraff. She had to give it to Wallace, he was one of the few people in her life that knew how to make her smile, and it had been a long time since she had really smiled.
