Mion's Wiki page.
Personality: Mion is a strange, energetic, and confident seventeen-year-old tomboy. She is so much a tomboy that she, her friends, and everyone else in her hometown refers to her as an 'Old Man' or 'Uncle Mion'; most of this is the result of her strange and generally not (for 1983 Japan) lady-like behavior, such as talking about her breasts, asking about other people's underwear, shoving people into her breasts, making boys and girls wear embarrassing clothing, and being physically aggressive with her friends like a schoolboy.
Part of the reason for this behavior is partly because it is simply who Mion is in reality, but also because she's the next heir to the Sonozaki family after her grandmother, which means that she'll be the next person in charge of their hometown and in charge of their family's yakuza connections--not a normal 'girly' adult life to be saddled with right from birth. She needs to be strong, smart, sneaky, and aggressive, hence the development of her personality. Now, as a teenager, she exaggerates a bit of this personality to compensate for the fact she has developed a more 'feminine' side (being in love with a boy, liking dolls, enjoying cooking, etc) and is unsure as to how to accept that side of her when she thinks no one she knows would believe she has such a side.
Her 'feminine' side is becoming a more and more important part of her as time goes by, which is troubling because, again, she doesn't have the faintest clue what to do with it. As a result, she does her best to hide and deny it, particularly anything that may suggest she's got feelings for Keiichi. Despite being in love with the boy, she is terrified of telling him (One: she knows he thinks of her as 'best friends'; two: she thinks he and Rena or another girl may have something; three: her mother was ostracized from the family and denied the headship of the household due to marrying a man from outside Hinamizawa like Keiichi and thinks her family doesn't like him--which the joke is on her, as her entire family including her terrifying grandmother adores him and wants them together) which leads to plenty of teenage angst. She tends to let off this angst by confiding in her twin sister, Shion.
Mion takes her role as 'Games Club President' seriously, despite it seeming to be nothing more than a silly excuse to hang out at school; in actuality, she originally created the club for the express purpose of making sure Rika Furude and Satoko Hojo weren't lonely at school, because the latter tended to be ignored by the population and was also unable to play outside for some time due to a health condition; the former was Satoko's only friend and stayed by her side, even when having nothing to do. Mion goes out of her way to befriend lonely people, hence why Rena, Keiichi and Hanyuu (three rare people that had moved to Hinamizawa rather than having lived there all their lives) were immediately dragged into the club. She also takes it upon herself (often using the excuse of being the leader) to help her friends and anyone in need, even if at her own expense. Even so, a major part of the Games Club she created seems to be to sate some kind of weird borderline fetishistic need to make boys and girls wear embarrassing, cute, or skimpy clothing.
Mion is a very physically, mentally, and emotionally strong girl possessing a lot of compassion and selflessness. She has a few big insecurities but possesses the potential to grow past them and accept all aspects of herself. She can also be overbearing, embarrassing, clumsy, and weird, but all with good intentions, most of which are to make her friends happy.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
- Strengths:
-> She is physically fit, almost to an inexplicable level. She is capable of defeating the villain's personal bodyguard--military-trained and with years of experience in martial arts--with ease one-on-one with her martial arts; she is also proficient with a katana and, as seen from a side-story set 20 years in the future, has incredible potential as a swordswoman, being able to take down a dozen men armed with guns without fatally wounding any of them.
-> She has 100% unwavering trust and faith in her friends, each of which she loves dearly. She is capable of tremendous strength and willpower if doing something for the sake of any of her friends' well-being. Even when faced with a friend trying to hurt her, she refuses to harm them in self defense.
-> While Keiichi steals the show with being able to produce charismatic speeches on the spot, Mion is charismatic in her own right and an excellent leader. She helps coordinate the counter-attack on Miyo Takano's military subordinates, has no problems speaking to groups, and always thinks of others when in the role of leader.
-> She is able to perfectly imitate her sister (to the point that the family, their friends, and their bodyguards cannot tell the difference) despite the two of them having distinctly different personalities.
- Weaknesses:
-> Having grown up being very un-feminine and considered essentially a boy by most for her life, she has developed issues in her teenage years in regards to her feminine side. She has difficulty knowing how to show it and incorporate it into her overall personality, and doesn't know how to go about getting people to realize she is, in fact, a girl and has interests generally reserved for girls.
-> In relation to her problems with what to do with her feminine side, Mion is utterly and completely clueless as to how to deal with romance. She is and has been in love with Keiichi ever since he saved her from a gang of thugs (which had been their first meeting), but does not know how to show it and is terrified of doing so. Instead, she picks on him, throws her body at him as a joke (such as asking if he noticed her breasts getting bigger after he went on a trip), and takes the role of best friend, which essentially leads to her digging her own hole more and more, and leaving her completely Friend Zoned. This also makes her a bit jealous over the fact that Rena and Keiichi flirt back and forth, even if it is platonic.

First Person Sample: Hey! Hey, guys? Anyone? I need some help. What do you do if your Pokemon tries eating something it probably shouldn't? Mine's got something in her mouth and I don't think it's food. Oh, and before you ask--
[ Mion turns the 'Gear upwards to show a shot of the ceiling--the ceiling and the Treecko sticking firmly to it, mouth puffed up and filled with...something. ]
--no, I can't check to see what she's got. I came back to my room and she scurried right up the wall and onto the ceiling. I'm kind of worried, but I'm also wondering if it might get a power up if it eats random things. Is that something that happens?
...C'mon, speak up! Chick in need here!
Third Person Sample: The trek between towns was long and tedious, but made all the worse by the searing heat and complete lack of shade. This was totally a day she would use to lay around or go swimming back home in Hinamizawa, but she had more important priorities here. "Right? We're not gonna let Kei-chan and the others beat us. We'll catch up to 'em in no time, even if I end up smelling like an old man's armpit before we get there!"
The Treecko, which seemed to be wilting a bit from the heat, shared its master's enthusiasm, but was a bit concerned by said master's behavior. It blinked as Mion sniffed her own armpit and made a loud 'WHOOOA' sound. It really did think its master was a man. Hey, humans are hard to tell apart, okay?
"That's the smell of adventure! We don't stop, don't give, and we keep going, no matter the trouble, danger, or smells. A nice bath can be our reward, but we can't think about that until we've earned it. Right?" The Treecko nodded in agreement and the two of them increased their speed.
...Which only lasted about ten minutes, because Pokemon and Trainer both went a little too far and passed out in the middle of the path. "I think...maybe a nap...won't hurt, right?" She was really desperate to catch up to Keiichi, both in regards to battling skill and actual location. Sure, the boy had a girlfriend (which she did her best to keep out of her mind), but he was still her best friend and wanted to be with him. So, even though she had passed out and even though a Furret stole her berries while she was passed out and said Furrett trampled over her back, she was determined to catch up to him.
Sniff, sniff.
She placed 'get Kei-chan back for making her smell terrible' on her To-Do List, as well.
