Good from Bad.

First off... HAPPY YULE!!!

Well today was good and bad all at once. I'm SO sick of the holidays and am ready for it to be over with! Things at work have been crazy and here is what happened today.

I was working bar with Shawn- and if you've followed my posts in the past I have a few issues working bar with Shawn. At this point I don't know why- but its something I need to fix. I asked him if he wanted to be the main bar partner because I knew today would be really busy and he's fastest as main bar, and I fastest as a second- but he said no... and so I did what I do and things got bumpy and he started to stress out and when I'm around people who are tense it makes me tense... I'm an empath, I can't help it. But when I'm tense it makes me stress out and then I make mistakes or I get paranoid about making a mistake and get slow.

So he got mad and after we got through the line of customers he went in the back with one of the assistant managers to talk. I got pretty noticably grumpy. Started thinking "I should talk to Elden about life touch because maybe this isn't the right place for me" "Maybe everyone has these problems with me but Shawn's the only one who says anything." So after a while of those thoughts Shawn calls me into the back.

He tells me: He really thinks highly of me and does want to see me succeed in the business. No one else has problems with me on bar so he's going to think really hard about what it is he can do to make things better and challenged me to do the same. He told me that Lisa and him had been discussing who was next for a promotion and they agreed it was probably me. That was great to hear because that's what I'm there for- I haven't even been there six months and they think I've got the potential to become a supervisor. I told Shawn I do want to become a supervisor and I do need people to be straight forward with me about what I need to work on. He said my only obsticle is working well with him... He's my manager and if I'm going to rise in rank I will have to work closely with him and so him and I need to get to the point where we do things right together and have a good time, like I do with everyone else.

Linh gave me a ride home from work and that is one thing we talked about. She asked me about the talk Shawn and I had and I told her a good portion of it but I didn't tell her that Shawn and Lisa had already been talking about my possibly becomming a supervisor. She told me Nikki had expressed interest in becomming a supervisor and she offered to work with Nikki but Nikki didn't give it a second thought. Linh said between Nikki and myself- Nikki is more efficent on bar, but I'm more mature. Now- in my defense with bar- Nikki and I got hired at the same time... she came from two years at fast food and I came from a slow fabric store and had never worked in an enviroment like that. I cut less corners than Nikki, also. Linh then told me what to expect when it comes time for my review in a couple weeks and said if I want to become a supervisor she's willing to work with me to get me to that level. I told her when I talk to Shawn durring my review I'll discuss it with him and give her a concrete answer then but I'm definately interested.

When I had my first interview back in June, I told Lisa Casper that one of the main reasons I want to work for Starbucks is to rise in rank and get the hands on management training I'll need for my future. That was before I knew I would be working at the fastest store in the district, and the highest volume store in the district... and with THE best baristas EVER! Shawn once told me "If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere" If I can make it at that store, any other store will be a peice of cake- and if starbucks is a peice of cake- I have confidence one I get my cafe established- I can ROCK it.
