be a marrow donor!

Sorry about the crossposting, for those of you who read plans or got stuck on the email list.

For the next two weeks, the National Marrow Donor Project is waiving the usual $50+ fee for new members.  If you go to www.marrow.org in the next two weeks, you can request a cheek swab kit to be sent to you by mail - with four swipes and a little personal info, you can become a potential marrow donor.

As you probably know, marrow is trickier to match than blood.  By getting a large pool of potential donors in their database, the NMDP makes it just that little bit more likely to save the life of someone in need of a transplant.  Odds are pretty good that your marrow won't be needed... but if it is, odds are pretty good that there's nobody else in the donor pool who can save that person's life.  The donation process isn't a lot of fun, but it's usually less than a week's discomfort, and you get to save someone else's life.

Please consider joining.
