So, I was at work yesterday, and we were quite busy because of some math-science event invovling middle-school and high-school girls from upstate. I'm sitting at my counter finishing up with a customer when I look ahead to see if we have any more in line. To my shock, I recognised someone who was checking out the displays 30 feet away.
Mr. Lipp. From Roxboro. And Science Olympiad.
My jaw drops. I turned to a co-worker and my supervisor. "Guys, I see my middle school science teacher over there." My supervisor responded "Well, why don't you go and talk to him?" Rather sheepishly, I go over and say hello. It was in fact Mr. Lipp, whose daughter had come for the math-science event. I think back-this is the same guy who we all thought was creepy and a little perverted back when we were 12. I had not seen this guy in over four years, at the very least. He had grayed somewhat, and has a gray goatee, but otherwise he looked the same. He said that he wasn't surprised I went into a science career, and that he just went to Mr. Brown's 60th birthday party (SciOly coach and retired 8th grade tech teacher from the Jr. High). Oh, and Kevin, he wished you the best of luck at Canisius.
I always joked with my co-workers about that happening, since Ithaca is only about 65/70 miles' drive, but I never thought it would actually happen.
