Christmas morning breaks brilliant and glittering, with a fresh coat of snow covering the path to the door. It's the first Christmas in the cottage, and Bran and Will are both determined that everything will be perfect, and so elated that whatever happens, it could hardly be anything but. It begins with the little gifts, left in stockings over the ( Read more... )

How Abby had conned him into this...well, he knew exactly how. He should have been spending time with his sister and the rest of his family.and instead he was on the island. It wasn't entirely so bad except during the holidays that were always family events. He'd occasionally had to miss them because of work, but he'd been in the area.

"Thanks for having me," he said, smiling a little. But any friends and family of Abby were his, too.

"Oh, we're glad you could come," Bran assures him. "There are supposed to be people around, at Christmas."

"I don't think we've officially met," Tim said, holding out a hand. "Tim McGee." He'd seen the guy around. It was a little hard not to notice him, just like the purple girl and the green girl and the guy who was from Star Trek something or other. But it was rude to stare.

"Haven't we?" Bran grins. "I suppose not. I forget that, it seems like everyone knows everyone else, here. Bran Davies. A pleasure."

"Abby knows everyone, I'm beginning to think." So many more than Tim did, but it usually didn't bother him. Usually. "Me, I've never been quite the social butterfly, gothic social butterfly, that she is."

"She knows more people than I do," Bran admits with a shrug. "But then, my social circle here has already expanded a lot from what it used to be at home."

Tim nodded. "That's something like me. I mean, not that there's more people here from home than just Abs, but I only know a handful of people here. Kind of like it was back home." He knew people, but he only had a handful of friends, most of them from work.

"I know what you mean," Bran says. "Will I know from home, and Paul I'd met from visiting him. But everyone else I'd just met here."

"I know my former IPD partner and his daughter, my current IPD partner, Abby, the twins, uh, Alice." Tim shrugged. "I really don't know that many people."

"You know me now," Bran points out. "And the others here, now."

Tim nodded. "That's a very good point." And it was always nice to know more people.

"It is," Bran says cheerfully, "I'm a genius. Come in and have some tea? Or we have mulled wine, and cider...."

Tim laughed. "With an ego like that," he teased, "don't suppose you're related to Rodney McKay, are you?" He grinned and followed Bran inside.

"Not that I know of," Bran says cheerfully, "but it turns out I've a number of relatives these days more than I expected." He pours a cup of something warm and slightly spicy and passes it to him. "Here. Nadolig llawen--happy Christmas."

"Relatives you never knew of?" Tim asked curiously, taking a sip of the drink. Hmm. It was good. He smiled at Bran. "And Merry Christmas to you, too."

"It's a long story," Bran says, because it is. "I expect Abby can fill you in, if you decide you want to know it."
