Project Explore is arguably the most important research study for gay/bi
men conducted in the past decade. This study followed over 4,200 gay/bi
men for four years in six major US cities. Seattle was included in this
study and represented 743 of the participants.
Project Explore's data will be used in years to come when describing the
sexual behaviors of gay/bi men. Participants were asked about their sex
lives, drug and alcohol use patterns, attitudes towards safer sex, and
received free HIV testing every six months. The main objective of the
study was to test two different types of safer sex counseling. Half of
the men came in every three months for intensive counseling while the
other half came in every six months and received standard HIV counseling.
All the men filled out a computer questionnaire every six months that
asked questions about their sexual behaviors. We used people's HIV status
as the primary indicator at how well safer sex counseling works to reduce
risk.
Everyone is welcome to attend this community forum to hear these results.
We look forward to seeing you and answering any questions you may have.
Thank you to all of our volunteers,
