OK- I've been back to Iowa from active duty status for about 3wks now. In those 3wks I've put over 1000 miles on my car traveling to see family and friends, finding an apt, getting back to my job and getting back into the swing of things.
I've only run twice in the last 3wks and during the last 5 or 6 weeks of active duty I only ran a handful. I'm pretty sure my unit is going to give Army Physical Fitness Tests to everyone that's back at our next drill weekend, in another week, so now is the time for me to get back onto the running kick.
Plus there are 2 races coming up that I would like to run this year, as well as a marathon and 1/2 marathon to watch.
Oct 21st: 2007 IMT Des Moines Marathon & 1/2 Marathon, Des Moines, Iowa.. I plan to get some coffee and station myself near the Marathon's 20mi marker and the 1/2Marathon's 7mi marker as that part of the route goes through a large expanse of wooded park and won't have many people cheering them on.
Oct 28th: Alpha Omicron Pi's Run for the Roses, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa. 5K race benefiting Arthritis Research Grants. $20 registration fee. I plan to run if only because I did not run the race during all 5 years I went to Iowa State University.
November 17th: Iowa Living History Farms' Off Road Races. 7mi cross-country course. "Be part of the 'Biggest Cross Country Race in North America'. You must be ready to climb fences, wade through creeks, avoid cows and claw your way to the top of gullies with over 5000 other runners of questionable senses." $20 registration.
