New MSN

Sadly, I feel, the new MSN Messenger has lost its way.

No longer is connecting people the main priority of it. Yeah, sure, it still does that
WE ALL KNOW THAT!! WE AREN'T STUPID!
but the emphasis runs deeper now, like a trench, into the induction of
THINGS!

The inception of the photo was a good idea. For overseas chat, for example, it allowed friends to see each other grow and mature without actually having to be there...awww! But now, the photos are tiiiiiiny little thumbnails next to the screen-names on the contacts screen. WHY DOES ANYONE NEED IT?! OK...you can click it to see a "contact card"...which tells you exactly the same thing as the screen-name itself. But alas, if you press the little triangle on its side, it shows you the email address and, if you're interested, phone numbers. ALL YOU USED TO HAVE TO DO WAS RIGHT CLICK!! NOW, IT REQUIRES TWO SEPARATE CLICKS! THATS HALF THE EFFICIENCY!!!

Also now, you can write your own little comment that goes next to your screen-name when you sign on. In italics. It was never actually that complicated to sum up a days mood...YOU JUST USED TO WRITE IT BY THE SIDE OF YOUR SCREEN-NAME! IT DID THE SAME THING!!!! It instructs you to "write a personal message for your contacts to see"...surely the word 'personal' hasn't changed meaning without me knowing about it!?

Oh and now we can know what music everybody else is listening to. Because I never used to sleep at night not knowing. And I was just too damn lazy to ask. How the fuck am I gonna get away with secretly listening to Shakin Stevens' new album without looking like a big gay rubbish head now!? Before I could just lie...

And just what IS the point of having your own "personal space" on an INSTANT MESSAGER! Personal space isn't the point of the thing - if you want personal space, go to your room and get the fuck off messenger!

Once you get started in conversation, however, it gets a lot more complicated and infuriating. More buttons than on a a giant farmers jacket, in essence.

It is much the same, but for a few little "quirks" that do nothing. The whiteboard, much like a regular whiteboard, does nothing and is very uninteresting. The games aren't working. Theres a search bar that does nothing if you click it. Also, theres a tool that allows you to write in your own handwriting...whats the point of even having a computer?!

And now you can nudge people. For anyone whos tried it, not so much of a nudge really, is it? More of a full blown shake. It's very annoying, too. And very rude as well; if you were having a conversation with someone in public, you wouldn't nudge them. Let alone give them a jolly good shaking!

But, alas, now I can send an animated emoticon, which takes up the whole screen. I've been waiting to be able to express a guitar smash through animation for years...you never can use the right words usually, can you?

Theres other things but I think I've made my point. One day, MSN will just be one big button, and whoever presses it will make the world explode.
